I’ve got a reputation with everyone

If you know me at all, you know that I love Derek Webb . And if you didnt already know, he’s got a new album coming out November 9th. From what his wife has told me about it and the very little sound clips Ive heard, this is going to be one amazing album. Different than anything he’s done with Caedmons or his first solo album. Even if you may of not liked Derek before, I encourage you to download Reputation and tell me its not an amazing song. Maybe its just because I’m in a relationship and can relate greatly, but this song is so very moving to me. This is what Derek says about this song…

This is a song I wrote for my wife. Actually, we were down in Florida this last year and I wrote this song just following–my wife and I had a, what would you call, a “miscommunication”? And so I found myself at 3 o’clock in the morning sitting in the only place I could find light, which was in the bathroom, on the floor, writing this song. seemed like the best place for me at that point, writing this song as an apology to my wife.

It’s not an amazing song. I love the lyrical content, but the Wilco musical influence isn’t doing it for me. And yes, I have three Wilco albums, so it’s not because I don’t like the band. I just hope the album can’t be nicknamed “Derek does Wilco.” :-)

Hey Matt, this is my blog where I say its an amazing song. And I say that for its lyrical content. I need good lyrics or else its not an amazing song.

;) Even I am excited about this new Derek Webb album! I’ve been saving my $5 off coupon just for Nov. 9! Yipee! Umm… anyway. I love my “beautiful princess” thing. That is FANTASTIC. Thank you for the phone call, I’ll be sure to take a moment sometime this week to return it in a less noisy, less Halloween-y evnironment.

Thanks for the link. I really love the direction he’s headed in!

He’s a superior songwriter, so I’m glad that he’s taken his songs in new musical directions. It is kind of obvious that wilco is an influence, but it’s got a great feel. I’m excited that he’s gone away from the mid-90′s grassroots-caedmons-bebo-silers-acoustic-movement because I was getting really tired of that style.

I look forward to seeing Derek at Wake Forest in two weeks.

Dang, go Derek. I’m glad you’re a fan, or else I’d never know these things.

For me amazing song is lyrics and music.
