Hippo Excursion

I didnt really do anything to celebrate Memorial Day. In all my years of working retail I never though of Memorial Day of being a day of sales. My mom disagreed and said we need to hit the mall (I had an exchange so why not? They have GAP there). When driving up to a pretty empty parking lot my point was proven. Sale day my foot. We did exchanging and I scored (read: mom paid) a pair of jeans (at last!). We also decided to head over to Kohl’s to see their “sale” and we knew for a fact, if nothing else, my red dishes were on sale, yet again. I got a few bowls to add to my collection and while at the check out we passed a Madagascar display full of stuffed lions. I didnt think anything of it till my mom said “it looks like the have a hippo”. That my friends is really where this adventure begins.

After walking back to customer service, them calling the stockroom to confirm, they were out of hippos. Sad. But wait there is one other Kohl’s near by! Nope, they are out of them too. “The hippo seems pretty popular” the sales girl says to me as if thats suppost to bring me some sort of comfort. If you didnt already know, I kinda have a hippo fetish. Its not bad, and please, dont get me a hippo salt and pepper shaker for Christmas. I dont collect everything and anything hippo, I have lines drawn. I really dont have that many hippos ether. But Gloria from Madagascar (no I havnt seen it) was just too cute for words. So what do I do? Call Jason. He was no where near a Kohl’s and it was getting late in North Carolina so I let it rest, until I got home.

I got on Kohl’s website to search where nearest to Jason there is a Kohl. There where two! I call the first one, they also are sold out of hippos. I was getting very discouraged. What evil polt made it all the way to North Carolina to rob me of my hippo happiness? I call the other Kohl’s, they transfer me up front and the young man at the front says

Sales Guy: “Yes, we have the hippo.”
Me: “Oh great, would you please put it on hold?”
SG: “Yes ma’am I can do that. Whats your name?”
Me: “Actually, my boyfriend, Jason Windsor will be picking it up. Around 6 tomorrow.”
SG: “Alright it will be here. And the other 40 of them here up front.”
Me: “Thank you!”

I hang up and call Jason

Jason: “Hello?”
Me: “Tomorrow by 6pm you need to go to the Kohl’s on Bridford Pkwy. They have the hippo on hold under your name.”
Jason: “Is this how you greet everyone now?”

Id like to point out that I never asked Jason if he would do this for me before I called Kohl’s. He could of said no, being he has other errands to run after work today than to go pick up Gloria the Hippo at Kohl’s. But he is a sweet boyfriend and did it just to bring me hippo happiness. So today I remind him (as he asked) to pick up the hippo. When he gets to Kohl’s:

Jason: “So where is the hippo?”
Me: “The display is up front. The one with your name on it is in the back in customer service.”
Jason: “In the back?”
Me: “Yes”
Jason: “Alright I will call you back.”

Couple moments later

Jason: “I hope your happy.”
Me: “You got the hippo?!”
Jason: “I got the hippo.”
Me: “Yay!”
Jason: “And everyone is talking about me wondering who this Jason is and why he has a hippo on hold even though they have a ton up front.”
Me: “Oh really?”
Jason: “Yeah. She said to me ‘You don’t have to lie, I know it’s for you’ ‘Yes, I will be cuddling with it all night tonight.”
Me: “Well will you?”
Jason: “Maybe.”

Ladies and gentleman, I have the best boyfriend ever.

YAY for hippos! Gloria and Daisy can be friends (along with the other hippos you have, I don’t know their friends). I bet the Flocked Animal would like to meet Gloria too.

And props to Jason for being a great boyfriend…I salute you! ;)
