Weekend Update

Friday night I went out to celebrate Kelly turning 25 at a baseball game. Maybe Im just old or not a parent to understand, but Friday was my first time sitting in the lawn. I do not like the lawn so much. So many kids and rude people. Where as sitting in our seats people are friendly and get into the game with you. Just a little harder to do in the lawn. Plus Im not into yelling at the outfielders, which seems to be the only way to get into the game out there. We had fun taking some goofy photos just the same:

Saturday evening Mike and Kari invited me to go with them to see M. Ward in Asheville. Ive only been to Asheville once before for a quick dinner on a drive back to NC from Nashville. We got there a little early for dinner and so we got to walk around a little bit allowing me to see another street of Asheville than I had before. M. Ward was great. Ive seen him once before with a full band before I was really a fan and it was amazing. This show he played solo which was also amazing for a totally different sound.

Sunday was a day full of friends and catching up. I introduced Kelly to the Wii, which is living at my house currently. Jason returned from a weekend in South Carolina. We catched up with each other which I really like. As much as we want each other in our stories, we love sharing them with each other. We had plenty to talk about before the Amazing Race came on. Sadly, no photos from Sunday – Owen needed a little break. I loved having a weekend full of friends and plans since a lot of time my weekend comes and goes with nothing really note worthy. Not that everyday off needs to be note worthy, but it was one of the more enjoyable weekends in a long time.

Dance TV

ABC Family has become my new favorite station. Usually when I’m getting ready or have the morning off, I spend time with Food Network learning things to sharpen my cooking skills. Recently I learned that ABC Family shows Gilmore Girls the same time that Tyler Florence is on. There are just some days I don’t know who to watch! Today ABC Family really did me in by showing Girls Just Want to Have Fun . Don’t hate me, but I have never seen this movie before. I was three when it came out, and I didn’t really ever catch up on good 80s movies (though I’m not sure if this one of them). Heres why I love this movie. VERY young Sarah Jessica Parker! Helen Hunt! So fun!

Bubbles

Tonight I came home and saw that my fish (still yet to be named…) had made a lot of bubbles at the top of his home. This made me a little worried. Is he not getting enough air? Why the bubbles? Ive been reading up online about betas and how to take care of them and came across this:

Q: What is a bubble nest?
A: Male beta fish will often build bubble nests when they are happy or content.
These may look like large masses of floating bobbles at the top of the tank.
This is nothing to worry about and is perfectly normal. Betas take in surface
air and move over under his nest and place a single bubble. After many, many
bubbles, they can create a large, thick nest. However the real reason a male
beta fish will build a bubble nest is to harbor and protect the female beta
fishes eggs. the male will carry each egg up into the bubble nest and place
it in very carefully.

MY FISH IS HAPPY! YAY!

Marla is happy to see the internet

Right now I’m “borrowing” some internet from “Country Club”. Thank you Country Club for being so kind to let me use your internet while I’m between landlords. I don’t believe I blogged about my house going up for sale and it quickly selling. Thankfully the process has been smooth, despite currently being without our own internet. The new guy has asked for a list of things that need to be fixed in our part of the house. Maybe this means during the summer I will be able to open my windows! And we get actually flowing water instead of drips in the bathroom! Ah, the simple joys in life really.

There’s been a lot going on, decisions to be made in my life lately. Maybe that’s why I haven’t been blogging regularly. Keeping myself busy with other things since writing tends to get me thinking. I have been enjoying other things, like taking photos ( lots of photos ), spring cleaning among other things. Seems every chance I can get, on breaks or for dinner Ive been sitting outside soaking in the lovely weather. I know all too soon then humidity will be here and I will not be so thrilled to sit outside. I’ve been cooking more lately, busting out the crock pot too. Nothing really exciting to report just yet as far as recipes go, feel free to share your favorites with me though. I’m just happy to be out of the food funk (first known by Sookie).

This weekend will be full of summer type events. Baseball game to celebrate a friends 25th birthday. How can you not love baseball games? WAH-FUL! Then I’m taking a trip with good friends to Ashville to see M. Ward. I’ve seen one street of Ashville, the one to which Mellow Mushroom makes its home. It was a quick dinner stop on a drive back from Nashville. Seems like a nice town I have yet to spend quality time in. Hopefully I will get to see just a little bit more of it this weekend. Next weekend I asked for the whole weekend off! No real plans other than maybe a day trip to Boone with Jason becasue we’ve had only few hours here and there to spend time together. The cameras will tag along and maybe we’ll take photos together becasue Jason isn’t half bad of a photographer himself.

I guess I feels a bit like catching up with an old friend. Its uncomfortable at first, since you expect this person to know about the day to day stuff, so you don’t have to catch them up on all the big stuff without the important details of day to day life. That’s what not blogging for a while feels like. I will try to be better if nothing else to keep a record in words on whats up with me. And I know good amount of friends and family use this source to keep tabs on me. But that also will depend if I have internet tomorrow, you never know. Yesterday the Country Club wasn’t so giving.

By the blood of Jesus, we are saved in His name

Lately, I haven’t really missed home. Maybe that’s because I have June to look forward to with my parents coming for almost a week. But the other day my coworker, who also goes to the same church as I do, asked if I was going to the sunrise service. I gave a very quick, almost laughable response of “Oh no.” Whats really interesting about that to me is that for the past 5 years that I lived in California I did go to the sunrise service. My church is huge, 5 services huge, and the idea of getting most of us on a beach near by the church is really ridiculous but really great at the same time. We all buddled up in our sweats, blankets and grabbed chairs for the untraditional service. I saw folks I don’t normally get to see going to different services. The sound system would always go out in the middle of the sermon. Some seagull fly over head and poo on some poor person’s head. Last year towards the end of the service I tuned out as I watch whales swim past our little set up. I think even my pastor would of been distracted had he known what was taking place behind him. I missed that this year, even though I really enjoyed being at church today. Jason played music with a great group of people I’m getting to know and it sounded wonderful (even if I didn’t like most of the songs). The high schoolers just returned from a week in the Dominic Republic and was sharing about their time there (Jr High and High School in one room together). Rekindled that place in my heart for missions, and recalled in my mind of times in Thailand and Hungry years ago. I sat up in the balcony today and looked over the sea of people and smiled at the thought I knew more than dozen people whom I consider a friend and would say the same of me. It surprises me how much of a community I have been blessed with in such a short time at this church.

In a relationship, you have a pretty good chance of getting hurt. We may not mean too, but since we are sinners we are going to fail the other person in some way. Its when you become comfortable and vulnerable with someone that there’s really a chance to be hurt but if you never opened up in the first place it be hard to have a true relationship. Most of the time this hurts the most with the person you share a romantic relationship with. I know sometimes I find myself a little taken by how much Jason does know me. You really know the person, becasue you usually are most intimate with them. Sometimes they can hurt you with them just being, well them, and other times its to actually help.
The very things that person is trying to sharpen you with (though it takes time to know its actually sharping and not pointing things out that are wrong with you) is what Jesus saved me from. Jesus saved me from these bad things that makes up the ugly side of me. When I sin, I’m basically saying, I don’t need your sacrifice. That’s a hard thought to sallow, it really is. I think its something everyday I have to chose to believe and then act upon. I hope these Easter thoughts stay with me, as I learn to grow more in God’s grace that he showers over me more than I will ever understand.

Office Returns Tonight!

Dear Dunder Mufflin friends,

Im so excited for your return tonight! I’ve spent (wasted) many hours on YouTube filling the little whole in my heart that is for the Office since you have deprived me for a month. You do not know how long of a month it has been without you! Though I did find this gem , which with a weekly visit to Dunder Mifflin I might not have found. I am ready to do my Office dance when the theme song starts playing. I want some Dwight and Angela moments! Will this be the week that Ryan cracks and breaks up with Kelly? Classic but not too much Michael? A Toby and Pam moment? Thats a bit much for one episode and I know that. And really, I don’t know how I can really prepare myself for the Jim and Roy show down. Pushing Karen out of the way? Now, that’s very gentleman like of Jim to do such a thing, but since you know, I love Jim with all of my Office heart, I think she would of been a great shield (ohhh Im so cold). You know, I even miss Andy a little, to that I say congratulation universe, you win. Will this week be the return of Andy? What will the Fancy New Besley do with two men fighting over her? Only a few more (but so long) hours till I will be in Scranton again. Please dont stay away for so long again – I dont even want to think about summer.

Excitied as Kelly is everyday,
alisa

Things I recommend:

Bagel chips. They are great but they turn awesome when you add cream cheese (as most things are when cream cheese is added).

Meet the Robinsons. Maybe Im a sucker for Disney movies but I really enjoyed this one, it was quite clever. Jace and I hoped the theater we went to was one of the ones who would have the 3D showing. We may go see it again if we can find a 3D theater. It also has a pretty decent soundtrack.

Watching this video as we wait for the return of The Office this Thursday night!

Reef Sandals . I seem to be outnumbered in North Carolina with Rainbows everywhere. Maybe its becasue Reefs are more of a surfer sandal? Ether way, I’m so happy to have nice weather to wear them again. Also, this will be my 7th year with one my pair of reefs – see how great they are?

Going to your local Starbucks tomorrow becasue there is a new set up tonight. Think bright. Think colorful. Theres new pastries and a new syrup (which means a new drink, but really its a latte or a frappucino, whatever you want it in) that’s a milky caramel taste. I still don’t know how I feel about it.

A cup, a cup, a cup ...

All the lonely people ...
