Short break from the boxes to bring you this blog post

I have a lot of stuff. I really do. I keep having this back and forth debate with myself wether is a good or bad thing. My churched talked last summer about simplifying our lives, getting rid of the stuff we really dont need. Of course I did not do that. I mean, Im pretty good about going through my clothes quarterlyish durning the year and get ride of clothes. But household stuff? Nope. Heres the thing, a lot of my kitchen stuff has been handed down to me by my parents who are very far away and I remember having these items growing up. How can I get rid of them when they are perfectly good? Who cares if may only use my waffle maker once a year? My dad used to make me waffles in there! See the problem? No one could get that waffle iron out of my hands if they wanted. This is why Jason will have four boxes of just kitchen stuff in his garage. Dont judge me! And household stuff? Yeah I dont know. Sure I dont need all those frames, candles or decor items. But I got them on sale, most likely. And someday I will have a home to use all these items in so why not hold on to them? Perfectly paratactical reasoning isnt it? Why not keep something instead of spending money on the very same thing later? See? I sit here thinking, I should just toss this stuff or find a good home. But then the other part puts in the box and writes it down on the index card. I just want to know if I really do have too much stuff for a single girl? And who makes that rule anyhow?

  1. I know I have way too much stuff for a single guy who lives alone.

I think that right now is probably not the right time for you to make those kinds of decisions.

Also, if you need to hear that it’s okay for you to keep things out of sentimental reasons, I will be the person to tell you that it’s okay. If my dad made waffles, I would keep the waffle iron, and I would be glad to have it. I have things of his for sentimental reasons. If you need me to take you around the house and point them out to you, I will be glad to do that.

  4. Also, I think Kari’s right—some of your stuff really ought to have some sentimental value. Like, you know, that big spoon you used to have stuck to the fridge. That has sentimental value for me, you know! If you get rid of it, you have my address. ;)

    1) Your blog somehow ended up not on my bloglines anymore. Which means I’ve been missing TONS of blogs and thusly feel like a terrible friend.

    2) I am having this same debate with myself. I need to start sorting/purging/packing very soon. And I want to get rid of lots of things and totally simplify my life, but… what if I NEED that item somewhere in the vague and uncertain future?!
