  • Off to offical be a Windsor! #
  • Smith another day. SS doesn't have my paperwork yet. #
  • My bank now allows you to stick in a stack of checks without an envelope! Scans the amounts on its own. So fancy! #
  • Waiting to change my name (hopefully) at SS. Filling out baby shower invites in the mean time. #
  • Signed my new name! Now must wait 24 hours before going to the DMV. Probably be more than 24 hours being tomorrow is New Years Eve. #
  • It's crazy here at the Bucks. I recommend staying far far away. #
  • Practiced one of the fruits of the spirit tonight: self-control. I drove by Krispy Kreme when the HOT DONUTS NOW sign was bright red #
  • I never do know what to wear to a high school dance at my age. #

Also, thanks to May Vanderbilt , here is a good way to keep sane during this holiday (sorry Im late posting this, but it works for New Years) season.

1) Spot clean instead of deep clean. No one will know but you, God, and Martha Stewart. God doesn’t judge and no one really likes Martha anyway.

2) Forget going to the grocery store. The Lord hath given us frozen pizza and he is pleased with it.

3) The house can get decorated for Christmas in stages. It’ll be like a progressive supper!

4) You can always work out tomorrow…

5) Attitude problem? This is nothing your Christmas mix can’t fix.

6) Pumpkin pie counts as a vegetable. Period.

7) Forgive the foibles of others. That’s how you spread Christmas cheer.

8 ) No occasion is too small for bubbly. This is the time to celebrate.

9) Give generously. Then go ahead and give a little more for good measure.

10) Call someone you love and lose track of time.

This is what Christmas is all about.

This morning was our annual staff Christmas brunch here at the church I work at. It was to be filled of high calorie yummy food with conversation. The conversation at the all ladies table I found myself at, was one of my favorites this Christmas season. It was a time filled of sharing Christmas traditions and favorite Christmas gifts they had gotten. The gifts that were most treasured were not the high end fashion or the newest and greatest thing from Apple – it was the gifts that were passed on from other family members. One had gotten a locket that belonged to her great grandmother that holds a photo of her great grandparents as teenagers together. Other was given her grandmother’s roasting pan – a gift she had received as a wedding present – since Thanksgiving hand been held at her house for years. I sat there listening to these great stories and gifts and how the gifts and times treasured most where the sentimental ones. Not the pricey or newest thing.

We moved on from conversation and food to a surprise from the pastoral staff – they wanted to express to each of us non pastoral staff how much they appreciated us. I came from pastors other than the ones right above us (I would not have made it had my boss expressed words of thankfulness to me in front everyone.) which was a very sweet time to hear of stories of how people touched others times. And I thought of how blessed I am to be in such a place of work that we take time (more than just Christmas time) to tell each other how much we appreciate each other. Receiving these words is rather hard for me. I have learned a lot ever since starting to work here that I work with people who want to give me these kind words – my boss being the one who does it the most. I am still learning how to not to brush a side the words, but to slowly receive them. In other parts of my life where praise is rarely given if at all, you’d think Id be grabbing it up. I don’t know where this trouble I have receiving comes from, but Im thankful for a place that allows me to grow in this area so that I may learn to express my thoughts of appreciation I have for many but not so great at saying it.

Needless to say, this has been one of my favorite moments of this Christmas season by far. Just like in the delightful movie ‘Love Actually’ – Just because it’s Christmas and at Christmas you tell the truth, without hope or agenda (or something like that). This is what Christmas is about, sharing how you feel about a person and sharing treasures as you celebrate the birth of Jesus together. May your Christmas be filled with times such as these.

A cup, a cup, a cup ...

All the lonely people ...
