My friend Krissy is one of my heroes. I don’t use the word hero lightly. There are very few people in my life for whom I would use that term. A hero has to have qualities that inspire me. A hero is courageous, even when she is afraid. A hero is brave, even when it would be easier to run and hide. A hero is noble, even when nobody else is looking.
Krissy personifies those attributes to me. I’ve only known Krissy for around a year, but in that year, I have watched her train for a marathon, and show incredible beauty under pressure. She is running for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a cause that she not only believes in, but one that she is determined to fight for. But it’s not just big things like a marathon. Krissy lets me be sad when I need to be sad. She makes me laugh when I need to laugh. When Krissy isn’t at work, I notice it. I miss her hooker boots. Her incredible smile. And her encouragement.
I can only hope that each of you has your own “Krissy” in your life.
Brandy, as always, your writing is exceptional and really gets to the heart of the matter, whatever it may be. However…with that said…”hooker boots”? I’m a visual learner. Wow.
And this, in a nutshell, would be why I’m NOT an everyday hero…
Great post, Brandy.
And I have the real one. Lucky me!
wow, that’s a pretty spectacularly sweet post…well, all except the “hooker” boots part…I hope you know that I am flattered and feel pretty special to make it on to your blog topics. Thank you and thank you for making me bust out loud in front of my kids who were left wondering what the heck I was reading.
I’M SO DISAPPOINTED THAT I’M NOT YOUR HERO. YOU JUST BUSTED MY BUBBLE. JUST KIDDING, EVERYBODY NEEDS A SPECIAL HERO AND KRISSY SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD ONE. LOVE MOM
Oh mom, you know you’re my hero! That’s a given. Krissy is ONE of my heroes…which means I have multiple ones. You’re #1
