so, tejas. wowsers. so much fun was had. unfortunately, i don’t have the mind capacity to properly give you details. so…i will write later. i need to gather some thoughts. and no, i haven’t finished the new layout stuff…so shut it!

wow. today was surreal because of something that i had no control over. a 2002 graduate of ouachita, tiffany key stanley, was killed late last night in a car accident. she was married. i knew her on a first-name basis, but not a lot more than that. she was a music major and drum major of the marching band. so i saw her a lot, talked to her some. pretty cool girl. it’s such a sobering thought to realize the fragility of life. (and so cliche to write about it.) God will take me when he will, and when he does, i will have accomplished exactly what he sent me here to do. isn’t that a reassuring thought? but one so hard to apply on a daily basis. tiffany has been on my mind all day, but mostly i’ve been thinking about death (and life) in much broader terms. i tend to do that…start with an isolated event or observation and then slowly zoom out, analyzing as i go. i didn’t come to any conclusions today, but i was awfully reminded of how short life is…and how long eternity is.

so sunday i went with april to see the dave matthews band. and…it…was…amazing. just incredible. i was a little nervous because i’d heard from a couple of friends about not-so-great shows after dave had enjoyed a little fun grass. well, he did just fine. and so did the rest of the band. i was shocked to see leroi not wearing sunglasses. heh. leroi has to be the most shy, unassuming stage performer EVER. but hey, he’s doin something right. funny story…i randomly decided to play “guess the next song” with april during the jam to seek up. i went with digging a ditch while she chose grey street. what would you think the chances of guessing the next song at a dave show would be? i mean, those guys play such a varied set every night. ANYway, april was right! how’d she do it?! yeah, and i was pretty excited to hear it. they played all my favorite songs! the only missing ones were #41 and bartneder. other than that, extreme satisfaction was mine. here’s the set list:

ants
help myself
rhyme & reason
too much
seek up
grey
crash
fool to think
dancing nancies
warehouse
diggin a ditch
so much to say
stone
where are you going
billies
________

the maker
two step

oh yeah, they stayed off stage for like 7 minutes before coming back for the encore.

i’ve been thinking recently that i should try to tackle a “hard” book, but one that will still satisfy me. you know what i’m talkin’ about? i’m unsure of where to look, however. any suggestions? i’d kind of like to try something new; i’ve done faulkner, joyce and dostoevsky. although it’d be good to read ulysses. anyway…

another thing…i’ve been trying to figure out what to do with my life. several things have passed into the noggin, but i just can’t nail something solid. i feel like i could be missing something if i just “accept” the first interesting thing that comes to me. but obviously there is a point, fast approaching, when i will have to decide for sure. what happened to the good ol’ days when the school counselor told you what you do for the next year? just kidding. i just wish i knew for sure.

love in the fast lane. sounds like a self-help book. or maybe an album title. or just a song. or perhaps simply the truth. who knows?

ai ai. i don’t have anything to talk about. i’m sitting here listening to chris thile’s solo album, and it’s really hitting the spot. really, really quality stuff. i highly recommend it. he’s probably one of the more prolific and proficient musicians out there right now, in my opinion. and super cool to boot. so go buy it.
