Independence!

Well, the 4th of July has come and gone and it was a great holiday! Although I had to be in the lab for a few hours each day of the long weekend, the rest of the weekend was both restful and fun! Becky and I did some karaoke Friday night – it was practice for me so I can some day actually do karaoke in front of other people – we had a blast anyway! And fyi, the words to some songs are not as nice as you probably think they are…
Saturday included an Italian dinner with friends and then playing spades late into the night – and fyi, I’m not very good at spades – sorry Becky! But we had a good time even if we were in the negative scoring range…
Sunday I had to spend some time in the lab, but several other friends went to Lake Norman and had a good time tubing and water skiing – missed that but got to catch up on a bunch of stuff I’d been falling behind in – including a little bit of sleep! And after a few hours in the lab Monday morning, there was a great cook-out at Keith’s for the 4th – you’re a great host, Keith! (and Rich!) I had a really good time – Becky even broke out some bubbles and you would not believe how long that kept the 20 or so adults entertained! Ended the evening with fireworks at the country club, which were beautiful – you almost couldn’t see the ones at the end of the finale through all the smoke, the finale was so long!
Wish I’d taken more pics of the whole weekend – keep forgetting my camera… I’d love to see anybody else’s pics if y’all got good ones!
In other news, my dad is coming home in two days – Mom is sooooo glad, we’re all getting anxious to have him back, safe and sound! Matt and Candace are coming home this weekend too I think (me too) and we’ll all get to celebrate Father’s day together! Yeah!
And in honor of the patriotic nature of the holiday, I leave you with this quote from the Gettysburg Address:

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent
a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all
men are created equal.
Abraham Lincoln, 1863
