I'm amused that I posted what I did. I almost made it to 200k on the truck---I got to 195,800+ before it broke down in October and I sold it. I would've almost assuredly put the final 4000 miles on it by the end of 2006, given the driving I was doing last year. I'm going to buy something near-term and eventually give my truck to my uncle for his step-daughter to drive when she hits 16. The truck has little value at this point, so if she wrecks it, there's no loss [as long as she's okay, of course]. I can always rent a truck when I need to haul something. I'm getting myself used to this concept, because I essentially have an unoptimized situation: I need to haul something maybe three times a year, but I drive a vehicle optimized for hauling every day. Dumb. Me, show-off? Guilty as charged.

I’m going to buy something near-term and eventually give my truck to my uncle for his step-daughter to drive when she hits 16. The truck has little value at this point, so if she wrecks it, there’s no loss [as long as she's okay, of course].

It's nice to own a reliable vehicle that you can drive into the ground, though.
