Too many hobbies
I know I am not good at updating my blog. I wish I could just download my brain into the computer and there would be a lot more entries:-)
One of the reasons I don’t blog more is I have too many hobbies.
After dealing with the important thing God/church related things, family and work, I try to fit in my hobbies in my little space of free time.
I recently joined the Langley Camera Club. I really enjoy taking pictures, but finding the time is another matter. I take a lot of pictures of my kids, which I hope they will appreciate when they are older. Taking artistic pictures takes time and it usually better when I am on my own or with someone who is doing the same thing. This doesn’t happen very often. Anyway I am hoping to be able to do more artistic picture-taking in the near future. Meanwhile I have been learning some new tips and tricks from the meetings of the club.
Another hobby I have is video editing. This is something that takes a lot of time, so I don’t do this very often either. I did a DVD of Aaron’s first 2 years of his life last Christmas and for this Christmas I will work on the highlights of 2005, including Kyle’s birth story. Before I do that though I need to finish my brother’s wedding video. OK so he’s been married 5 months already. Something I hope to finish in the next 2 weeks. I am hoping that by putting it into writing I will actually get it done by then.
The other current hobby which consumes a lot of my thoughts is geocaching. In case you are not familiar with this a simple definition from Buxley’s Geocaching Waypoint website is
So what is this ‘geocaching’ thing anyway?
Simply put, geocaching is treasure hunting for the 21st century. Armed with a GPS receiver, a set of coordinates that tell you the location of a cache, and a healthy sense of adventure, players go out and look for caches of goodies hidden by other geocachers. If one of the goodies in the cache strikes your fancy, you can take it–provided you leave another goodie in its place.
In addition to the goodies, caches nearly always contain a log book of some sort so that you can record your thoughts and scribble a note for future cache visitors.
This sport takes you to interesting places around town and in the next town and in the woods or wherever. It’s been fun discovering places I have never been to and and then trying to find a hidden box. I guess in some ways it sounds kind of trivial, but I enjoy exploring. I often thin of where I can hide my own cache and I have hidden a few of my own. This is one thing I know I need to keep a balance of so I don’t get too obsessive about. If you want more info on the sport you can go to Geocaching.com
I do enjoy hiking, but I haven’t done much of that lately, for the most part in geocaching I do a lot of smaller hikes, so that kind of makes up for the lack of hikes.
I also enjoy skiing and snowboarding. Growing up I did a lot of this every winter. Lately it has not been as much, but now as Aaron is approaching 3, I think it’s time to strap some planks on his feet and send him down the hill:-)
Anyway this is all to say why I don’t blog as often as I do.
Since I have had this blog I have not missed a month without blogging at least once a month, so I am squeaking on this Hallowe’en to enter my not so scary blog entry.
