The painting
Last summer we saw an art fundraiser for the Boys and Girls club of Kelowna. One painting stuck out to us. It was an abstract painting with a chapter of Hosea written in the background. We bought a ticket to win the painting but we didn’t win. We were interested in seeing more of this artists work. We did some research on the internet and found the artist and her website. Her name is Irene Kordalis Pedersen and she lives in Penticton. We emailed her and she invited to see her studio in her home. She has a nice house with a view of Penticton. She had a lot of cool art in her house that was all for sale. It was also neat to find out she is also a Christian and how her faith influences her work. Most of her paintings are done in a similar fashion. She first glues bible pages onto the canvas, then she write scripture onto the painting in a 3-D like fashion. Then she paints many layers on top in a variety of colours. Usually on the top it will be a metallic painting of an ancient symbol. She has one painting with the whole book of Ruth written on it another with Jonah. She has a series of 49 paintings with the book of Isaiah written on it. She is currently working on the book of Genesis in a series of 52 paintings. The canvas sizes vary a lot as well. Many are 3 feet by 3 feet, she has some 8 feet by 6 feet and everything in between. She has many other paintings as well. You can see some more at her website at www.irenekordalispedersen.com.
The painting we have is not part of her official Isaiah collection, but it features parts of Isaiah chapters 43 and 44. It’s hard to capture the detail of the painting in a photograph, but it gives you a bit of an idea of what it is like. I took a few close up shots so you can see the writing and also some of the bible pages that make the background. The painting was not exactly cheap, but we liked the uniqueness of her work and it’s a nice painting we would like to keep for a long time.
Here are a few pictures of our recent purchase.
