In the event that you either haven’t noticed or live in the arctic circle, the days are starting to get longer. Seventy degrees and sunshine aren’t bad either. And apparently my desire to draw is directly linked to the season and weather. Because as soon as I’m exposed to sunlight and warmth I suddenly have urge to hit paper. My powers of art are dependant upon the sun. Just like Superman.
Except not as cool.
I started ebaying my skills out this week for the first time in months. The winner of the auction gets to have me draw whatever they want (within reason) for a nice little fee. I’ve come to realize that fans who are into buying commissioned art often want obscure characters. Though what facinates me more is that people are willing to buy drawings from obscure artists, of which I am chief. This week I have been commissioned to do a drawing of “Ten of Spades”. Ever heard of her? No? Don’t feel like you should have.
Even though I have been into comics for a while I generally have to figure out just who the heck they’re talking about. “Can you do a picture of Artemis from Wonder Woman?” they ask. “Sure.” I answer. And then quickly call Marty to figure out who the heck Artemis is. Fortunately for me Marty is a fount of comic knowledge. Not to mention owner of any comic I’ll ever need for reference material.
As odd as it may sound though, when I take a break from drawing (this time I think it was about 2 months) and come back, I always seem to come back a little stronger. Maybe because my brain has had time to sort out and absorb all the things I learned during my last big drawing period. I’ve got a lot of things to catch up on in April, so this new phase of motivation comes at a perfect time.
The only thing I wonder now is: “Who the crap thought a criminal organization called ‘The Royal Flush Gang’ would be a good idea?”
So, what does Ten of Spades look like?

heh. She wears a white body stocking type cotume with 10 spades on the front, like a card. And one over her face for a mask (I guess that makes her 11 of spades)
pretty uninteresting…but remarkably easy to draw.
