Today I played paintball for the first time. Paintball is the ultimate guy bonding activity. It’s also the ultimate time to reinforce just how dead we would all be in a real combat situation. As for me, I would have been sent home with a purple heart within the first 2 minutes on the field.
It didn’t hurt as bad as I thought it would. Except for that one shot to the side of the head I took, but that was largely due to two little kids next to me asking a bunch of questions (”Do I just stand up and shoot?” “Are we safe here?”) and one of my teammates telling me to run around behind the field to get to him for more ammo. The life lesson is this: Never take your eyes off of a guy with a gun. I still have a knot on my head. Of course it could have been a lot worse since the one guy who popped up from behind the hill I was hiding behind had his gun on automatic and tried to unload on me from 5 feet away…by the grace of God his gun jammed just when he tried to….twice. That was close.
Anyway, I dunno why I’ve never tried this before. It rocks.
But even so, I think this is going to be a monthly thing. It was a friggin’ blast.
I’ve never done that, either. I do like to play laser tag, though. Ask Jeff Holland about the time we all went to play and ended up deader than doornails.

Paintball Rocks! I used to play for a sorta-pro team. I do hope y’all were wearing headgear….
And in a normal tourney, or even on a well-ref’d field, being shot any close than 20 ft is grounds for disqualification and can get you kicked off the field.
Oh, and the FA (full automatic paintball gun)? Jamming is typical. They have an accuracy range of about 25 ft, and usually jam after about 3 to 7 shots.

oh yeah…definately wearing headgear. I took a shot to the mouth and never felt it…but the shot to the side of my head caught me just where the mask ended. ow.
And I thought it wasn’t legal for him to try and shoot me that close…

No… but they have semi-automatic friends. My paintball gun needs an overhaul before it can be used again (new seals and a new tank).

using an automatic gun would, in my opinion, be way too expensive…you’d waste too many paintballs.
