compulsive compartmentalization

Captured thoughts…on exhibit in the zoo that is the blog-o-sphere.

There is no such thing on earth as an uninteresting subject; the only thing that can exist is an uninterested person. - G.K. Chesterton

Did you see what happened here? I began my little exposition into my commission drawing by saying how much I wanted to de-compartmentalize my life…and what did I do? I stuck to that topic and didn’t deviate to other topics for the most part…I put off posting until I had more of the commission to post. Because for the last 2 weeks this blog has been about art.

Fascinating.

Today let’s talk about how much I’m glad I don’t work in a warehouse anymore. I’m actually excited about the coming of fall and winter. Why? Because for the first time in 4 years I’ll be able to experience them as actual seasons….not just temperature extremes in a warehouse, longing for lunch when I can warm my hands over a Mexican combination plate.

Last night I made Sarah some hot chocolate. We’re both looking forward to having a fire in the fireplace…and I mean an actual fire…none of this “gas log” crap. Half the fun of a fire is burning things up. And if your fire isn’t burning anything but gas, you’ve deprived fire of it’s primary function. That is, entertainment. There’s just an intrinsic joy in watching the ads from the Sunday paper burn into intense colors of blue, green, and red… wondering what toxic fumes you’re releasing into the air, hoping the updraft is sending them out into ozone and not into your den.

And that’s really what winter is all about. At least it will be, when I can experience it in all its radiant beauty. And this year maybe I’ll even get to eat the burrito while it’s still hot instead of defrosting my fingers over it.

Sorry… couldn’t resist the reference… but I am a pyro… I love burning things… and seeing if things burn. And burning gas? that is only fun in a tightly closed container tossed into a fire from a safe distance away…

Kari, your sordid past will go up in flames…if you used the right kind of ink, it may even go up in colorful flames.
