SIPs and Metal Roofs

Housing plans continue! I’d like to set up a seperate blog (perhaps on blogspot) when we begin building (sort of like my relatives’, the Newmans, house blog).

We really like the look of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).

These panels would cost a little bit more than stick building, but they may save money in the long run on energy costs. They also would be very quick and easy to put together. We’re still getting a couple of quotes from a few places to see if this would even work in our budget.

As far as roofing, we’ll probably go with a metal roof. Pretty much all of the new houses up here have them, and they make a smart choice for snow shedding. Our design would work very well with metal roofs - the main roof would just be two large sheets — very easy to install. Phil has installed a few roofs at job sites, and this would be by far the easiest option. We’d like to go with a black standing seam roof.
