How to get guys interested in Pride and Prejudice

Cast Keira Knightley in the lead role. (It’s still just a rumor. Let’s see how it plays out.)

Mike is very excited about the possibility of this. “Not,” he says, “that I wouldn’t be delighted to go and see Pride and Prejudice with you no matter who is in it. But you have Colin Firth. Can’t I have Keira Knightley?”

I think she would be a better Jane than Elizabeth. She’s too pretty to be Elizabeth, I think.

    Yes! Colin Firth. Any day.

I agree, she is too pretty for Elizabeth, I’m not sure how I feel about Pride being a two hour movie?! I am too spoiled by the A&E version!

I don’t get why you’d try to distill a good book served by a good long mini-series [or whatever you want to call the A&E thing] down to a Follywood flick.

    Oh well.

I don’t think a two-hour movie will work, but I am sure I would go see it just the same.

But it’s really funny to think about Mr. Darcy saying that Keira is “tolerable” and even Mr. Bingley saying she’s “very pretty, too” [implied: obviously not as pretty as Jane]. hehe.

i would finish it much faster if they actually started a movie. i have not seen the a&e thing.

They can make her look less attractive, ie Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron in recent films.

Okay if they cast Keira in that movie, Tim will want to watch it like everyday…and since I hate P&P….

This could be the end of our relationship.

I’m with those who ask why waste money on a movie when you have such a fantastic mini-series. And… ahem… not just A&E — mostly BBC, in fact — did you really think Americans could pull off such a great thing all by themselves? ;-)

i was about to scream about how bad an idea it is to make this into movie… until i saw keira might be in it. now i think it’s the greatest idea since dirty dancing 2: havanna nights!!!!! sometimes, my nights just don’t have enough havanna in them.

I’m suddenly and inexplicably interested in this story. ‘Tis a mystery, that after years of hearing about it at incessant length from my female friends that now, of all times, I’m taking an interest. Hmmm…
