A tribute to food.
I love to eat. I am so glad that food is not bland and tasteless. In honor of that, here are a few foods I could not live without:
Cheese. Whether it’s browned mozarella on top of a bowl of french onion soup, cheddar cheese with a granny smith apple, or provolone on a sandwich, cheese is extremely necessary in my life. I eat a couple of slices of cheddar cheese almost every morning, because I don’t get hungry after eating it.
Tomatoes. Tomatoes are pretty divisive. A lot of people don’t like them. I truly don’t understand this, because fresh tomatoes on a sandwich are like little slices of heaven. I want to get some tomato plants to have in my backyard. There’s nothing like getting a tomato off the vine and bringing it in to make a fresh tomato sandwich.
Onions. We don’t do it quite so much anymore, but there was a point where Mike and I ate onions almost every day. They add so much good flavor to things. Again, I don’t really understand not loving onions. (But I don’t like corn or scrambled eggs, and I know a lot of people don’t understand that.)
Chocolate. I don’t eat chocolate every day, and lately I’ve been eating sugar-free Jello when I need a sweet treat, but there is nothing like chocolate. Chocolate candy, chocolate ice cream, brownies, chocolate cake. Especially when chocolate is hanging out with his best friend, peanut butter.
Pasta Sauce. This is combining two of the above (and some other favorite things, like garlic), but I would not want to live in a world without pasta sauce. I call it “spaghetti sauce” and Mike calls it “jar sauce,” but whatever it is, we buy the Classico brand (Barilla if we are really treating ourselves) and add things like onions and mushrooms and ground beef.
Frozen pizza or pizza rolls. I know this is kind of odd. But who wants to live in a world without frozen pizza? Not me. Pizza in general is a favorite - look how many of the above it combines. hehe.
Strawberries. Some of my favorite childhod memories are on my grandparents’ farm, back when they had a huge garden. My mom, my brother, my favorite cousin and my Aunt Nancy would go and pick strawberries in the morning, and then the adults would make jam and freeze berries while my brother, my cousin and I were given heaping bowls of strawberries to eat. Fresh strawberries? Yes, please.
Well, there are plenty of things I have forgotten, like peaches and blueberries and lima beans and okra (I bet lima beans and okra gross more than a few of you out). But that’s good enough for now. Share some of your favorites with me, please. ![]()

I love okra.
Creamed corn is one of my favorites… and mashed potatoes… heck, potatoes in any form. Strawberries are nature’s candy, y’know… and they’re also delicious with chocolate (sans BFF PB). I love PB&J. And apple butter. And eating in general. I am grateful that God made eating something pleasurable, not JUST something we need to do.

Since Trey already knows my “favorites” I guess I can share with the rest of the world! I love lima beans and okra too! But I cannot live without chocolate, I swear I eat some everyday. I also enjoy a good bowl of Kraft Mac N Cheese, sometimes I even put tuna in it. And there is absolutely no substitutes for a Chik-Fila original sandwich. Heck I think I really enjoy all food.

I used to think I couldn’t live without potatoes. Or white bread. But I have lived mostly without them for about six months (I do eat whole wheat bread, but still not as much as I used to). But I wouldn’t want to live completely without them.
Shelby: Mac N Cheese - served in a BOWL. Kelly Mac taught me that one.

As far as I am concerned, we could dump the world’s supply of mac and cheese into space…but, not okra!! Love the okra…need the okra….and I call it spaghetti sauce as well, mmmgooood. Some other favorites are tomatoes and frozen pizza as well. Fried chicken and black eyed peas also top my list. And nothing says home like stuffing!!

i don’t get the okra thing. I’ve never really had much of it, so I might like it….but in school kids were always eating it. and I was like “why?” Of course I would ask this as I chugged my chocolate milk and chocolate chip cookies. Maybe one day I’ll try some okra again.
tomatoes rock. Sarah doesn’t like them, which I don’t get. There’s nothing better than a good tomato sandwich.

To clear the air, I have no idea what okra is.
Does popocorn count as a food? If so, that’s mine. Usually I prefer “butter lovers” but for some reason I think I want to tone down to maybe just “butter”.

I don’t think I could live without potato chips.
I am ashamed of who I am.

Hi all, I’m a new commentor, been reading for awhile, I surfed in off of Ochuk’s site.
Kari, you hit it….chees, tomatoes, and onions….mmmmm.
I think one of my favorite things are either a grilled onion sandwich with muenster cheese or a a fresh tomato one, with a little salt and pepper. Oh for the days when I will have a real house and can have tomato plants.

Ohhhh, Roger. Popcorn. Good one.
Okra is a vegetable. I like it sliced and then fried.
Adam, I said I couldn’t live without pizza rolls. Potato chips are nothing to be ashamed of.
Hi, Angie! You have good taste in food. hehe.
Brian, I guess I could make fried okra sometime when we have hamburgers . . . maybe you and Sarah could be won over. Mike has succumbed to the okra-love.

Shelby’s favorite is chocolate dipped okra…
I think french fries are my weakness.. they are like my kryptonite…

You can have chocolate on your pizza. If it’s fruit pizza that is.
Garlic is one of my worst addictions.

I absolutely love most of the things that you mentioned. I adore cheese, strawberries(in fact, I had about 10 fresh strawberries for breakfast this morning), chocolate, and even okra. But I only will eat the okra if it comes from the K & W cafeteria in Chapel Hill. Yummy to the tummy:).

Trey, one year I gave up french fries for Lent. It was really hard. hehe.

Hi Kari!
I have just rediscovered your blog. I used to read it all the time when you were on blogspot.com! I knew you thru the Guild Vol. 2. I’m the young one from Florida, a friend of Chris Brock and Christian Smith, if you remember those guys. I remember talking to you about my interest in going to college in NC. I just finished my A.A. and I am transfering to Western Carolina University in June! Yay! I’ll be in N.C. after all!
What a great post! I too love okra and limas–so long as there is some good grove pepper sauce on the table! I am so happy to have found you again. I check this once a day, because you provide me with so much encouragement and inspiration! I appreciate your honest, sincere posts. And the fun ones, too!

I’m rather shocked to have found people who love okra as much as I do. Most people always say, “What’s okra?” Hmph.

I’ve never had okra, but I’d be more than willing to bet I wouldn’t like it. I like beef…and potatoes…and cucumbers…and pizza, especially frozen pizza is quite possibly the best thing on earth.

I’m addicted to chicken. In any form. Mmmm, chicken. And tomatoes. And good, dense, grainy bread. And cheese. Love the cheese. And fruit in general (except kiwi — furry fruit disturbs me). And lately I’ve been obsessed with hard-boiled eggs. Not sure why.

Hey, Lauren! It’s good to hear from you again! Maybe we can meet up at a concert or something.
This is a fun topic; apparently people like to talk about food. hehe.
