I don’t like to post pictures of my house, so you’d better enjoy it while you can get it.
Once upon a time, Mike and Kari bought a house. Here is what the kitchen looked like.

(That’s three layers of linoleum. And the scary carpet.)
There were crazy light fixtures and half the room was carpeted and the cabinets had weird yellow slats on the doors and the fireplace was hideously ugly. And ugly wallpaper. There were so many awful things I can’t remember them all.
This is what it looked like for most of the summer.

How did we get through that? I don’t know. Margaritas, mostly.
And, FINALLY, here is what it looks like now!

Yes, I know we need a cover for our vent.

Yes, I know we need some crown molding for the fireplace. You people are so demanding. Can’t we rest on our laurels for a while?

Obviously there are a few details we need to finish, and we need to work on window treatments and hang pictures, but I wanted to let you see how far we have come.

One last word about the kitchen - here is a picture of our tile. I mopped last night, so I feel confident showing it to you. Our friend Randy at Rekoncile Design did the floor, and he did a spectacular job.
The kitchen transformation can also be viewed here.

I LOVE IT!

There is nothing I love more than seeing young families moving into solid but neglected neighborhoods and houses and making them beautiful. It’s the best kind of environmental responsibility!

Once upon a time, Mike and Kari moved into a great neighborhood and found a house (that is a boy) and made him look spectacular! Great job, guys. Can’t wait to see it in person.

I posted that on Sunday! That was just one day! You are very demanding. (But, yes, daily posts are over. Back to our regular schedule.)

you have a special shelf built in for books in your kitchen/dining area part. Freak, girl, your genius is showing. love it!

Oh my goodness, I love it! So fabulous! I am jealous of your bookshelf on the other side of your kitchen peninsula. Nicely done!

Love the book shelf…and I LOVE the Charles Chips containers!
August 27th, 2008 at
It’s awesome that you noticed them! My dad got them for me for Christmas a few years ago - he used to sell Charles Chips, and I asked him to save some cans for me if he ran across them.
We will have other decorations up soon, but those obviously had to go over the pantry.

Stopped by after seeing you on Emily’s blog. The kitchen looks great!

That kitchen is gorgeous! I am so jealous!

Hey! Came here after reading your beautfiul tribute by Emily. Love the kitchen! I’m totally digging the bookshelf. I’ve never seen anything like that. It looks soooo classy! Love it all! BTW, I read about your trip to New York. When I read about you going to The Strand, it made me think of GG (which we hear you love). The one where they’re planning they’re ‘perfect week’ before Rory goes off to college. Anyways, thanks for letting me stop by and learn a bit about you!

wandered over here via chatting at the sky’s suggestion. Wow! I love your renovation. As everyone else has said…I love the shelf for your cookbooks, etc. I love that you put countertop their as opposed to just a wooded built in. It looks great. You have an interesting blog..I will have to stumble back here to visit!

Wow!! I hear remodeling is one of marriages biggest tests. Congratulations…it looks like this might be the real deal.
…until the babies come…we’ll see how you hold up then.
