Can You Hear Me Now?

I have spent more than 8 hours (so far) this week on the phone with our new phone carrier (I’ll leave their name out of this for now…. but it does have a “V” in it). Let’s just say that some customer service and technical support people are more creative problem-solvers than others. We are still waiting to have a phone that can both dial out and receive a call (and that is a challenge with WWII era wiring!). We never got dial-up access to work for internet for when we are traveling (I’ve finally just given up and decided to use Hannah’s ISP for while I am in Maine) and our DSL at home is still not able to be activated (Mark got back to Philly on Saturday night after a week in Maine…no baby yet… and spent more hours on the phone with the DSL tech support, to no avail). We hope to have phone service and internet access from home (PA) by midweek at the latest.
But I do not want to linger on the challenges (although they make for better stories). We are excited about our new apartment. It was hard to leave it so quickly after arriving to go and be with Hannah in Maine (waiting for the next grandchild to be born). I think once we get unpacked and organized it will be a wonderful place for us. I love being on the second floor…lots of windows, views of trees, a breeze! I am also excited (or maybe relieved) that I am back in my schedule for studying Greek. Basically, whenever I am not sleeping or helping Hannah I am studying. Mark has returned to Philly and begins the actual Greek class on Monday. This month will be a little crazy–Mark in PA, me in ME; waiting for Hannah’s baby; the unpacking of the apartment on hold till I get home (and Mark trying to be a bachelor in the midst of it); transferring things like driver’s licenses, mailing addresses, insurance, etc. I look forward to someday finally feeling like we have “landed.”
Things to rejoice about (in no particular order):
- Safely arriving in PA
- Money for Summer and Fall tuition
- Family and Friends praying for us
- Being in Maine
- Nothing broken in the move (at least from what we’ve unpacked so far!)
- Ethan, Maggie, Éva (and the yet-to-arrive 4th grandchild)
- An air conditioner (so Mark can study easier in the hot weather)
- A Whole Foods and a Starbucks within a short distance of our apartment (OK, so we may not be able to shop there all the time, but at least they are there!)
