Mining for Gold

Apples of Gold

A fitting word is like apples of gold in a setting of silver. Proverbs 25:11

So here are some of the fitting words from my studies today:

“We ought not to rack our brains about God; but rather, we should contemplate him in his works.”
John Calvin in Institutes of the Christian Religion, Book1: Chapter 5
(I like to think this was God’s way of telling me that I could take a break from studying…)

“I do not seek to understand that I may believe, but I believe in order to understand. For this I believe– that unless I believe, I should not understand.”
Anselm, Proslogion

And in honor of Adam Kadlac, my favorite philosopher, a “little” quote from classnotes today:
“So also, humanity is individualized in the things and universal in the mind. Thus, when humanity is in the mind, there is something which is individualized which is in the mind . But it does not follow that humanity is universal in the things, or that there is something in the things which is universal in the things. And it does not follow that humanity is individualized in the mind, or that there is something in the mind which is individualized in the mind. To say that humanity is individualized, is incomplete; it is individualized in the things. And to say that humanity is universal, is incomplete; it is universal in the mind.”
(that’s from Wolterstorff in case any of you were wondering…)

Amazingly enough, Adam Kadlac is Wolterstorff’s favorite philosopher!
