The Confession of my Feet

Tuesday, October 19th, 2004

I, like just about everyone else, don’t like being frantic. I want peace and tranquility. I talk about living in the boat where Jesus was sleeping in the midst of the storm. I want to have that peace which supercedes the storms that swirl about me. But I have come to realize that if you [...]

Quick Update

Tuesday, October 19th, 2004

This is just a quick update until I get a chance to sit down for a few minutes. We had a great weekend in North Carolina with Sarah, John, Ethan & Maggie. On our way flying home we got bumped from our flight… so we both got roundtrip tickets for another flight! Hurray!

(NOTE: we ran out of final mem’s and no nikud were included in the set, so you’ll have to point it yourself)

Be Still, My Soul

Wednesday, October 13th, 2004

In a week full of midterms, quizzes and papers it is necessary for me to embrace the lesson in Katarina von Schlegel’s hymn based on Psalm 131:1-3. The words of this hymn from the 1700’s are as fresh today as they were 300 years ago.

Feelings…

Sunday, October 3rd, 2004

Our counseling class this fall is reading (among many other things) Dave Powlison’s new book Seeing with New Eyes. Chapter 13, “What Do You Feel?” looks at the various ways that we use the word “feel” in our conversations. Consider this example from the chapter.
“When I feel hurt because I feel my _______ (fill [...]

Walk a mile in their shoes

Saturday, October 2nd, 2004

OK, so we have an assignment due this week for New Testament. We are looking at the context of the New Testament and the initial audience. After several reading assignments (see below) we are challenged to write a reaction that several ancient rabbis might have had to the teachings of Jesus (specifically, the teachings in [...]
