It’s the Little Things that Mean So Much

When I first arrived back home after my 6 week sojourn to Maine and NJ, I must admit I was less than enthusiastic about our new little (still mostly packed) apartment. I allowed self-pity to crowd out the blessings that God had given me. But, now (I am happy to say) I have begun to embrace the goodness of God in all the wonderful details of our (mostly unpacked) apartment and am truly feeling at home and blessed.
So, for the record, these are some of the little things that I LOVE about my new home:
- Not one, but TWO windows in my bedroom so I can hear the wind and rain at night (which I love) and be greeted with sunshine in the morning.
- No garbage day! Mark will never forget when to take the garbage out because we can take it out any day we want!
- A laundry in the basement of our building. Not every building has a laundry, so I don’t have to haul dirty clothes to another basement. AND I can get ALL my laundry for the week done in a little over an hour! WOW!
- Living on a second floor means that when I look out the window I see the leaves of trees.
- Our mailman is ever so faithful to pick up any mail we leave for him!
- If Mark ever locks himself out of the apartment he can get a spare key from the manager!
- Unlimited hot water. This is pure bliss. We can both take the longest, hottest showers we could ever want (back to back even!) at the same time we are doing laundry AND the dishes (well, not showering at the same time that we do the dishes, but you get the idea).
- Chipmunks.
- A stone bridge to walk over every morning (what a romantic way to go to school).
- Utilities included in the rent (no worries about heating bills!)
- Wood floors.
- Gas cooking stove (I really missed this when we lived in VA).
- The ability to have DSL.
- And, most of all, someone special to share it all with.

Now….will you let me do the dishes in the shower?

Thanks for reminding me to be thankful for the little things:) So many times I take them for granted! I pray that God will continue to reveal himself in more amazing ways as you reflect on his goodness and mercy!

Dear Karyn,
Your blog is awesome.
Also, I need your help on a problem posed in my blog, in a post entitled “Information Retention in a Singularity.” Sage said that you could help me. Feel up to some astrophysics?
Keep writing, and I’ll keep reading.
Sincerely,
Steve

Hi,
this my first visit but not my last. sometimes God’s biggest blessings are disguised when we first look at them.
