The Eye of the Storm
As hurricane season begins, I am reminded of how the eye of the storm presents an eerie peaceful calm between the vicious attacks of the storm.
Last night was a peaceful opportunity to just kick back and relax for Mark and I. We set aside packing and travel details and traveled across the river to see James Taylor in concert. Mark had won tickets from a local radio station. It was just terrific (except for the pitiful stuff that they try to pass off as food at the concessions). James Taylor is an intersection of musical tastes for Mark and I. We’ve enjoyed his music for (oh my goodness) decades.

We saw him one other time live (as a gift from our daughters for our anniversary). He never disappoints. This time he had a few extra treats. He now has a small brass section which includes the sax player from the Blues Brothers’ band. Very sweet. Taylor has also added a percussionist to his regular drummer. Of course we still love the fact that some of the background vocals folks are still around. They are terrific in their own right. And one new vocalist adds her violin playing to the mix.
Well, this isn’t really meant to be a review of the concert (Mark would be better for that). I just wanted to let everyone know that we can still carve out a few minutes for a date even while we are getting ready to go to Chincoteague and Sudan. In fact, as I type, my bags are completely packed for Sudan and my other bags for Chincoteague are also almost ready to go out the door to the car. We’re starting to batten the hatches of our apartment for our departure.
We are grateful to everyone who has been so encouraging and supportive for this opportunity to reach out to our brothers and sisters in New Sudan. Our digital camera is packed and we hope to post pictures from the field so you can feel a part of the trip.

Hey Jenny, we’re looking forward to seeing you again too. Don’t be deceived by the picture of James Taylor here, I didn’t take it–just found it online! But we did have nice seats, about the middle of row K. We’ll be off to Colorado to see Mark’s sister for the first week of August then we’ll finally be “home for good.”
