Shift in the Universe

This Thursday, July 20, 2006, a major shift will occur in the universe which will radically alter the distance between Philadelphia and Maine.

It will no longer require 10 hours to drive to see our daughter, Hannah, and her family. The distance between us will be reduced to the equivalent of walking across a hallway.

Actually, they WILL be living across the hall from us. Philip has accepted a position working at Westminster Theological Seminary (he will be taking the building manager position of Jeff McRobbie who will soon be leaving for the mission field with his wife and small son). The position will require that Hannah and Philip live on campus in one of the beautiful old Gatehouses that sit at the entrances of the seminary. However, during the 6 week transition when Philip is “learning the ropes” from Jeff, the McRobbies will still be living in the Gatehouse, so Hannah and Philip (and Éva and Seámus and Jireh — “JiJi” as Éva calls him) will be moving into the Tyson Ave house to live with us.

We’re thrilled to welcome Philip and Hannah to the WTS community. We know that Philip will be a wonderful addition to the seminary. And we are of course excited that the grandkids will be so close!

Today is Hannah and Philip’s last full day in Maine. On Wednesday their rented moving truck pulls out for the journey to Philadelphia. They will stop one night in Boston (to be with family) and arrive on Tyson Ave on Thursday early evening. We hope the current heat wave will abate so that they are not welcomed by 99+ degree weather.

Well, I guess this means I need to get back to getting things done at the Tyson house so that they (and we) can move in!

[...] The Ol’ Sage and his Long Suffering Wife have had plenty to keep us off the streets and out of major trouble in the meantime. The old house we’re fixing up on Tyson Ave. has consumed our evenings and weekends (this was going to be The Summer We Did Nothing), but I think the end result will be worth it all. Once again my LSW has proven she had incredible vision, the ability to see something for what it can be and not what it is. Our friends Nancy and Henry have been incredibly generous and always surprising us with some new, unexpected little nicety they have added to the house. We’ll be moving in some time over the next two weeks, along with some surprise “house guests.” [...]

[...] Some of you in the local Philly area have offered at various times to help us with our move to the Tyson Ave. house. Our daughter Hannah, her husband Philip, and their three children arrive Thursday evening (July 20) (see Karyn’s post) to move in with us for six weeks. They might need some help unloading their truck (both at Tyson and at two nearby sites where they will be storing things). Then on Saturday we’ll be loading furniture from our old apartment to take over to Tyson. [...]
