Hannah and Philip are surely counting their blessings with little Jireh. He is a great baby. He eats well, sleeps well (a 5 -5 1/2 hour stretch every night), and is great fun to play with. Today his (Great-)Aunt Debbie sent a wonderful gift that she had made for him. Here he is enjoying it. [...]

Éva learned to respond to the greeting “Christ is risen!” with “Christ is risen indeed!” today.
This beautiful Resurrection Day is Jireh’s first time going to church. What a special occasion.
And on this beautiful day, we even had snow to greet us. It is still falling. What a visual picture of [...]

Jireh decided to sleep in this morning, so without their new alarm clock to help them Hannah and Philip also slept in. They are in the “newborn suite” in the basement. However, on the second floor where the other two (and I) are sleeping it was a different Saturday morning.

Today six-day-old Jireh had his first doctor visit. He is currently 6 lb 9 oz and still 20.5 inches long. He had his first immunization shot. He was a real trooper (and a real “pooper,” he had to have his diaper changed 3 times during the visit)!
He is also quite flexible! Here he shows [...]

This photo of Jireh is extra special because of the outfit he is wearing. Believe it or not, Hannah (and her sister Sarah) wore this when they were newborns… 25+ years ago! Big sister Éva also wore it when she was born (Seámus was too big to fit into it!)
It is hard to believe that [...]

I thought I would give a brief linguistic explanation for little Jireh’s name.
It comes from the Hebrew verb יִרְ×Ö¶Ö‘×” (yir’eh) which is a qal imperfect (3rd person, mascular singular) form of the verb ר××” which has as its first English gloss “to see.” However, the semantic range can extend from that basic idea to mean [...]

Hannah and Philip have a new little boy. Jireh William Walden was born at 6:32 PM. 6 lbs 11 oz. 20.5 inches. A precious little guy. Hannah did great. I had the privilege of catching Jireh as he was born!
More pictures and info later!

Yesterday (BW5) Éva and I went out and played in the snow. We also had the entire living room covered with some sort of “apartment” constructed out of blocks, riding toys, every dress-up garment in the house, and her baby doll crib. Hannah made little paper dolls of the family (including me!) for her to [...]

Woke up this morning to a winter wonderland. It’s still coming down pretty hard. Since I took the photos we have even more accumulation and big fluffy flakes are falling fast. We’re hoping that we don’t lose power. When it stops snowing Éva and I will go outside (of course, I’ll have to borrow snowpants [...]

It’s amazing what a difference 24 hours can make. Yesterday it was a gorgeous spring day, today we had snow. The burned fields are now covered with fluffy white snow. We’ll see if the overnight potential of 7 inches materializes.
We visited the midwife today. Her house is exactly what you might expect for a midwife. [...]

Day Three in Maine. We had a nice warm spring day today. Perfect for a walk, or playing in the mud (Éva’s favorite thing) or… a controlled burn (semi-controlled?) of the lower fields and the gardens. Apparently it is a Walden tradition (not Hannah and Philip, more like Grampy, and Philip’s aunt and uncle and [...]

Today we all worshiped at Hannah and Philip’s church (The Church of the Open Bible) before Mark headed back to Philadelphia. Too windy to be outside today, so we stayed indoors for the afternoon. It is supposed to be nice tomorrow (in the low 50s, so much for snow!).
We set up a study area [...]

We have arrived in Maine after driving through the night. We did take a break to stop and shop at 3:30 in the morning at L.L. Bean.
Hannah told me that it was now Spring in Maine and that I should leave my snowpants at home. So I did. Stupid me. It’s forecasted to snow every [...]

Little almost-two-year-old Maggie is more likely to call for her older sibling with “Brother!” (actually, it’s more like “Brudda”) than his given name, “Ethan.” She’s really lucky. What a great gift to have an older brother. Ethan and Maggie have lots of fun together. And as they get older you can already see how Ethan [...]
