Bennett and black babies

I can’t believe what I’m watching on CNN/TV/the web.

Talk about taking stuff out of context. Speech police from the left. For crying out loud. You can’t even make a point by stating what the logical end of a certain line of thinking is, because people will just nail you for it, even if you clearly denied that idea in the following phrase. GRRRRR.

I mean, seriously. Look at the entire sentence at least.

BENNETT: Maybe, maybe, but we don’t know what the costs would be, too. I think as — abortion disproportionately occur among single women? No.

CALLER: I don’t know the exact statistics, but quite a bit are, yeah.

BENNETT: All right, well, I mean, I just don’t know. I would not argue for the pro-life position based on this, because you don’t know. I mean, it cuts both — you know, one of the arguments in this book Freakonomics that they make is that the declining crime rate, you know, they deal with this hypothesis, that one of the reasons crime is down is that abortion is up. Well –

CALLER: Well, I don’t think that statistic is accurate.

BENNETT: Well, I don’t think it is either, I don’t think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don’t know. But I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could — if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.

Frvade – The hardest enigma on the internet

Published by under general

For all the puzzle lovers out there…

It’s not easy, but it’s addicting. There is a message board for hints. Some are better than others.

As a side note, Kathleen is doing her away rotation down in Houston this month, and I’m still taking my class at UD, so I’m doing a lot of driving. What’s impressive is that with just a couple trips, I’m already learning the cities/towns on I-45 between here and there. Corsicana, Centerville, and Madisonville are essentially 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 of the 250-mile drive down.

Read on the web…

Posted on a message board I frequent in a discussion about non-denominational churches:

Person A: John MacArthur is a non-denominational pastor.

Person B: You mean a non-denominational pope.

I laughed.

Wedding pictures

Published by under family,friends,general

So we still haven’t picked out pictures for our photo albums yet, but here’s an online one made up of pictures taken by someone at my wedding. I think these are mostly from my dad’s camera, but I’m not sure who shot all of them.

This American Life on NPR – stories from Katrina

Fascinating. Listen to last week’s episode, After the Flood. I listened to it on the way home from a college fair I was doing as a Rice alum volunteer.

Suffice it to say that now is the time to talk about race and how it influenced certain aspects of the recovery/relief effort, now that the people who have needed help have generally gotten it. The cops from Gretna have a lot to answer for.

Welcome to our world

Published by under friends

Our neighbors (and one of my groomsmen), Reese and Jennifer, just had their first child, a beautiful healthy little girl named Madeline. I think I spelled it right. :) Congratulations, Reese and Jennifer. We’re so happy for the blessing that God has so gracefully bestowed upon the two of you.
