One thing that I have come to appreciate about our community group is the fact that all of the adult men are older than I am. That means that they have a perspective on my life and the stage of life that I am in that makes their input and advice particularly valuable. Their experiences and wisdom have been encouraging and challenging to me, and I’m not sure that I looked forward to meeting in a small group like this since my year in East Asia.
I appreciate their presence in my life, and their prayers and just being able to spend time with them at community group and on Saturday mornings. God has truly blessed me with them. I will miss them greatly when we move.

OK, this is dorky and possibly only appealing to me because I’m a physician.
Bacteria Tower Defense
Apparently coded by an MD, and actually quite accurate in terms of antibiotic coverage and such. Kinda clever. I do miss the regular DTD showing you what’s coming up next so you can plan your map better, but as in real life, you don’t really know what the next patient is coming in with.

Steven Curtis Chapman, who recently lost one of his own adopted daughters in a tragic accident, writes about the experience of adoption for him and his family on CNN.com.
I am so glad he has had the opportunity to talk more about this in a public manner. I had known about his adoptions as a fan of his music, and I think he has done more to increase awareness of adoption among evangelical Christians than anyone else I know of in recent history.
Adoption is a truly amazing real-life example of the spiritual adoption that Christians have. Once slaves to sin, we can now count ourselves as sons and daughters of God, redeemed by the blood of Christ, given to us solely out of God’s gracious mercy.
Adoption is our way to bring the Gospel message to life and show ourselves and world what it means to love someone simply because – not because they deserve it, or that we have some special connection with them like the bonds of family. We are including them in our families because we have chosen to do so, out of love.

Well, he’s not really a baby anymore, as he’s probably close to three, but he’s still our puppy dog. He’s actually really gotten his act together a lot over the last six months or so. Except for that chewing on the rug incident.
