What Emma deserves

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

I’ve been thinking a lot about the fact that Emma doesn’t have two sets of Grandparents recently. Emma woke up while Rhea and I were doing homework together and was very agitated. I think that she was just sick of being home. So we decided to go for a ride. We went to Caribou, but they were just closing. We still did not want to go home so we called Rhea’s parents to see if we go visit them since they love seeing Emma so much. While we were there I decided to ask them if they would be Emma’s second set of Grandparents. They said yes! and now Emma has the two sets of Grandparents that she deserves. Thank you Mark and Lynda! I guess in a way this makes Rhea and I sisters.

Cavity Search

So I went to the dentist for the second time this year. I hadn’t gone for a year and half before the first time this year so I had to schedule a second cleaning (and a third next month). I honestly wouldnt recommend waiting a year and a half to go without a cleaning, your teeth can get pretty bad over that amount of time. None of the cleaning hurt, it was just tedious and annoying. I brush and floss my teeth every day and they still needed the extra cleaning! I never really understood the exact importance of brushing your teeth until today; if you don’t brush your teeth and get regular cleanings, you better start now. I was talking with the dentist and she told me that often people come in who have not been flossing their teeth. Apparently it stinks when she does it for them. Ew. I don’t think that I want to be a dentist. I also got 8 sealants on my right side of my mouth (i’ll get the rest next time). Apparently they have started putting sealants on the teeth before your molars. That’s fine with me, I don’t want cavities!

On a side note, Emma rolled over from her back to her tummy yesterday! She doesn’t do it very often; she would rather roll over onto her side. So, she can do it if she wants to.

Valentine’s Day

So, Mike and I got to go on our first date by ourselves in 5 months last night. Rhea was kind enough to watch Emma for us while we were gone. Emma did great with her! Of course she cried a little, but Rhea sees her often enough where Emma knows who she is and is not afraid to be alone with her for a couple of hours. It was WONDERFUL to get some time for just the two of us. We went to a cute Italian restaurant called Vescios for dinner. They gave each woman that came into the place a red carnation when they sat you. There was a cute candle in the middle of each table and dimmed lighting. It was very romantic.

After dinner Mike gave me a stuffed bunny and bear along with a box of chocolates. We went home and Rhea told us that Emma had worn her out while we were gone. She wanted to be held the ENTIRE time. I told her to try doing that every day. Emma just loves attention and we give her as much as she wants. We got one of those baby carriers where you strap the baby to you and it has been a lifesaver. We can play video games while she’s attached to you or get a drink among other things. It frees your hands for a little while. We use it almost every day for a little while.

Huh???

I was doing laundry the other day and all was going normally until I went downstairs to put the loads into the dryer. I saw some clothes in the waste basket and realized that the shirt lying on top was my tank top! It was wet and clean, but in the trash. I have no idea how it got there and why it was the only thing of ours that was in the trash. My guess is that someone was going through our laundry and heard me coming while he/she was in the middle of doing it. How else could have ONE article of clothing been thrown in the trash? I love these apartments…

What’s new…

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

Mike and I have been making some changes in our lives just so that we can live altogether more healthy lives. We have been trying to eat much more healthy. We found this great low carb pasta at Cub. It tastes exactly the same as the regular stuff, but is still healthy. When we are on a diet it doesn’t even really feel like a diet, there are so many substitutes for bad food that tastes exactly the same! I learned so much about the importance of eating healthy while I was pregnant that I want to keep it up. I want to live for a long time and one of the best ways to assure that is by eating good food. Mike and I both have been losing a lot of weight while still eating plenty of food.

Mike has gotten to spend a lot more time with Emma these days since he watches her while I am at school. It is great to see how much she likes her daddy, she is very attached to him. This time that he gets to spend alone with her is wonderful as he most likely wont be able to do that once he gets a full time job again.

I cannot wait until we move out of this tiny apartment. We outgrew this place a long time ago. It’s cheap and warm though, so I can’t complain. The change to a 2 bedroom apartment will be a welcome change nonetheless. 3 people don’t belong in a one bedroom apartment.

Oh, and I get to brag about my little one. She can drink from a regular glass if I hold it for her! She is one talented baby.

Life without Cable (or TV for that matter)

Saturday, February 3rd, 2007

I think that the one thing I miss the most about television is watching Star Trek: Voyager from 4-6 each weekday. Other than that I honestly don’t miss tv that much. I seem to get a lot more done without the distraction. I have also been able to play more FFXII recently.

Since we aren’t paying a cable bill right now Mike and I decided to buy the third season of Everybody Loves Raymond. This is a show that every married couple must watch. It is so cleverly hilarious! Mike and I often finding ourselves looking at each other and saying “that is exactly how married life is!” Of course we do not live right across the street from Mike’s parents (and do not have 3 kids) but there are still many similarities. I think that best similarity is the fact that Mike is the jokester in the family (just like Ray). I am very much like Deb because I am always find myself acting like the mom.
We also borrowed the 5th season of The Simpsons from Rhea and Erik. Emma likes it so much that we have gone through the season twice already. I think that this season is my favorite season that I have seen so far.

Emma has started sleeping less during the day now. Boy do I miss those days when she would take 2 hour naps, now they last about half an hour. It seems that her oatmeal is giving her more energy to stay awake with. She needs constant entertainment when she is awake and keeps her parents very busy. If Mike and I want to get any time to ourselves we have to stay up late into the night. I cannot wait until I can make her go to bed at 9 every day. For now her bed time is at 11. I think it would be easier for her to go to sleep if she had her own bedroom. It is hard to fall asleep in the room where all the action is. Well, we wont be in this tiny apartment for much longer.
