Bum

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

And I don’t mean my hind-end.

Tonight while closing the store I left a couple of chairs and a table outside so a group of customers could finish what they were doing. After the customers left, a bum came up and sat in one of the chairs. When one of my partners went to retrieve the chairs and table, the bum refused to get up. So we waited ’til we were ready to set the alarm and go home, but all the fellow would say was, “Uno momento.”

Hmmm.

I’ve seen more than one homeless person get physically hostile towards someone, not even necessarily someone who’s actually done anything to them. After asking him myself to relinquish control over the chair–and receiving the same response that my partner received–I debated whether or not I should just go and get the chair while he was on it. Not wanting to have to deal with either a) having to physically remove someone who may become aggressive, and b) not wanting to be in a situation where I might have to hurt someone for personal (or professional) protection, I just opted to call the Sheriffs department. No big deal on their end; the Sheriff came and asked him to leave, he took my name, birthday and store phone number down, and we all left.

Not exactly sure I did the right thing. My heart goes out to the homeless community. Even those who choose to be there instead of work or family or whatever. But just the same, I didn’t want to lose a chair and possibly receive a write-up. I don’t know if I should have just let the guy sit there and risk it, possibly showing a kindness he might receive as love, or just say, “Screw you, hippie,” and do my work thing.

Hmm

It has come to my attention.

So today I’m feeling a little under the weather. I notice a sore throat coming on and a bit of a lathargic feeling all over. So maybe that made me a little cynical. Or maybe it made me more realistic. Iono. But anyways, there were a lot of customers today who seemed to just annoy the snot out of me. Not quite literally, but it was getting there.

I came to the conclusion that either the world is full of idiots and I’ve been blind to it, or all the world’s idiots seemed to congregate around my Starbucks today.

Evidently the world is full of idiots.

Where have I been? Why didn’t I know about this?

I don’t know. But now I know. You know?

Me neither.

Test…

Wednesday, December 15th, 2004

Ok.

So here’s something that’s been on my mind for a time. If I was Socialist, here’s something that I would try to find a way to work into the government.

There needs to be a test for all males old enough to stand. And pee. At the same time.

The test would measure whether any individual male should be allowed out in public. The biggest part of passing the test is the ability to pee into a recepticle (toilet, urinal, etc.) without missing and spilling onto the floor. If a man cannot do this, he should not be allowed in public.

This would make many, many people’s lives much nicer, cleaner, more pleasant, and less disgusting when they have to clean up public restrooms after lazy or IQ deficient or drunk or pathetic or unable-to-control-oneself males who shouldn’t have been let out to public in the first place!

Individuals failing this test shouldn’t be allowed out in public until they can prove that their maturity and mental faculties are at a minimum level to control themselves while relieving themselves.

That is all for now.

Lots of lattes…

Good bright and early morning to y’all! Iono what time I’ll post this, but it’s before 9:00 am for me, and I’ve already finished up with my four hour shift at Starbucks and I’ve got the rest of my day ahead of me! It was my first day working behind these espresso machines, and I quite enjoyed it. They’re not like the La Marzocco machines that I’m used to, which are more manually operated as opposed to push-buttton, but these sure are quicker! I messed up a few drinks…oops! But it’s nice trying to get back in to the swing of things. I like the drive early morning and late morning, but the mid-mornings are a bear to get through traffic, so I’ll make sure to put in my request to have the easier-to-drive shifts, but we’ll just have to see.

K, scratch that… It’s now after 7:15 and I never made it to Kenny’s place. He met me at momma’s, and we did some running around, got some computers and cd drives and other misc stuff from his old boss, Randy, introduced him to my Starbucks, and I’m ‘bout ready to crash so I can be refreshed for another early morning!

Blessings on y’all…

Training for Star $$$

Tuesday, November 9th, 2004

So yesterday I’ve had more training with my new employer, Starbucks Coffee Company! Anyone in or around the Los Angeles area (specifically Torrance, Del Amo, South Bay area) come visit me at Sepulveda and Anza! From the 405 take the Carson St. exit Westbound about five miles or so, at Hawthorn Boulevard turn Left, then at Sepulveda turn Right and watch for the Starbucks on the near, right-hand corner at Anza. Your guess is as good as mine as to when I’ll be working specifically, as my shifts thus far are all over the board, but I’d be happy to see you!

There are all sorts of new buttons and changes since the last time I worked for Starbucks, but I’m already getting the feel for the menus and screens, so I don’t think it’ll be too much work. I’m quite enjoying the atmosphere of the coffee business again. It’s upbeat, smells really good, I work with a bunch of fun folks, and I love working with people! I don’t know whether this will end up being a full-time career for me in the future or not, but the company is good to its partners (what Starbucks calls its employees) and offers good benefits. Right now it’s what I need, and I’m glad for it. I don’t know what God has in store for the future, but I am enjoying now, and preparing for whatever is to come.
