This is not the first night that I have spent sleeping in London Heathrow airport. Though I don’t know if it can really be described as “sleeping” since they are doing construction in the terminal…and they do it all night long since there are no flights running. The construction combined with uncomfortable chairs with arm rests that make it impossible to lie down don’t make for very sweet dreams.
Can I just say that I do not like immigration control officers who don’t stamp my passport nicely. The man who stamped my passport upon entry into Greece pretty much looked for the fullest page there was and stamped there. Then when I left Greece, the man stamped on the same page again. And to make it worse, you can barely tell that it says Athens or Greece. It just looks like a date stamp. Then Mr. London passport control finds a page that already has 4 stamps. That is not allowed!! How in the heck am I supposed to fill up my passport before it expires in 2 years? I have less than 6 pages left, and those three stamps would have made it 5 pages. But thanks to the mean stampers, my goal may never be accomplished.
My name is Rhonda. I am blessed to live in a beautiful place out in the country with my wonderful husband. In addition to our "real" jobs (I work at a garden center and he is a teacher), we have a small farm where we raise vegetables, eggs and chickens to sell at local Farmer's Markets. We are currently fixing up/remodeling a house into which we will soon be moving...hopefully. In my free time, (what is that?) I enjoy traveling, cooking, crafty projects, reading and watching the sun set on the hills.
I stayed over for like 18 hours in Germany a few summers ago. While I somehow feel a sleep my fellow team mates when to get thier passport stamped (heck 18 SO counts). Well, when I reazlied I could get another stamp (upon waking up) I went to get one. No dice. It was sad.
How many spots for stamps do you have per page? It sounds like my passport has a lot more spots per page than yours.
Shoot, I wish I’d found this site while you were still in Kenya. I taught at a missionary school there, the Rift Valley Academy, for eight months from 2002-2003. Cool to read back through the posts, though.
Passport stamps are a mixed blessing. Israel was the second stamp in my book (and fourth). Now I kind of wish I could have hid them. I was going to visit a couple of my students in Sudan on their school break before I came back to the US. Not with an Israel stamp in my passport I couldn’t. Couldn’t get a new passport in time, no Sudan trip for me. Did get to visit some friends in England though. Not an entire loss by a long run, but still disappointing.
I think they make airport seats uncomfortable so that when you get on the plane you think, “This isn’t really so bad.” For the first half an hour or so. And then…
Hey look at me check your “blog”!! I’m blogging!
I think you can see who checks this thing, so I’d better say hi. I just wrote you a long email in the main house, but of course it wont connect to the internet there now and so you’ll have to wait until we figure that out again. But basically it said I need details on Greece! What to bring, what to wear, islands….
Those stamper men SUCK! sorry
at least you have more stamps than i do.
now i’m going to make an effort to learn “please stamp on a new page” in every language of whatever countries i go to visit.
