Where I discuss: an old post
this month a year ago:
hi everybody. just wanted to point out this really cool larry wall quote i got from sco’s site.Behavior can be reduced to biology, biology can be reduced to biochemestry, and biochemestry can be reduced to chemestry. Chemistry, in turn, can be reduced to physics. And physics, of course, can be reduced to theology.
–Larry Wall
i encourage you all to visit www.scottraymond.net. there are some really cool things there, and it’s alot prettier than my little blogger. just make sure you come back!
=)
it’s funny, friday i checked sco’s site, and he had that quote in his “today in history” section, and when i read it i thought about how cool it is.
today i saw my archives go back pretty far, and i wondered what i was saying about this time a year ago… and there it is again.
funny.

Where I discuss: changes
i was reading kristen’s blog today, and she quotes a song from Enter the Worship Circle.
i have some issues with the song, but i’m not really gonna go into that. i’m just going to quote a line, and then say what i think it should say…
Many men will read your words but they will never change their minds
should say…
Many men will read your words but they will never understand

3 Stooges
One of the funniest things about The Three Stooges is that they’re each bumbling around, calling the other two stupid and whatnot.
the fact is, all three of them are stupid.

Tango
i often wonder if people realize that it really takes two people to have a conversation; that they don’t have to reply to someone if they don’t want to have the conversation.
i really think people don’t know that.
which is odd.

Smoker
I had a good time last night. Virgil Hurt, proud father of baby Cal, hosted a little smoker last night. The ladies had a baby shower at another friends house, so us men gathered for some beer, cigars and oranges. (and a little bit of chocolate, but we won’t mention that because it isn’t manly. grr)
I smoked a cigar for the first time in my life. Gordon, my neighbor, said that i was impressive.
I’d say I smoked a good five inches of the thing. I think i over did it, though. that last inch or two pushed me beyond my limit. I rode over with Gordon, and on the drive back home I confessed that i went overboard on the cigar. I was feeling a bit woozy. and i stunk like smoke, too. i didn’t really realize that until i got home and was no longer surrounded by the odor. so i clean myself up. my breath was still nasty after brushing my teeth, so i sucked on a now & later to get that taste out of my mouth.
so anyhow… all in all a great time.

2 stories
this morning’s events that are worthy of sharing…
it is about 5:30am. the snooze on the alarm has gone off two or three times. it goes off again. i wake up, and turn the alarm off. i make a brief prayer, and then begin a conversation with my wife, who is sleeping soundly next to me.
“cutie, is today thursday or friday?”
she stirs, looks at the clock and says “5:35.”
i chuckle to myself. “do you know what i just asked you?”
“you asked if it was thursday or friday.”
“and then you answered…?”
“it’s 5:35″
i laugh, “does that make sense to you?”
and get no further response.
perhaps she was telling me something with that answer.
another fun story (though, not nearly as fun) from this morning, only it’s about an hour and a half earlier.
the baby awoke, and was hungry. megan was feeding her, there on the bed next to me. i had slightly stirred, but was allowed to continue in my sleep for the most part.
i sort of wake up… i can’t say i actually woke up, because my brain was no where to be found. my eyes opened, i suppose i should say… so my eyes open, and i see megan sitting next to me, holding the baby out as if she were passing her to me.
“yes?,” i say.
“i asked you if you would change her diaper.”
“oh. you did?”
she laughs, “yes.”
“okay.”

Where I discuss: a schmuck salesman
so… i just had a guy from ward’s scientific visit me. he’s just thanking me for doing (some) business with them, and asking what i order from carolina (their competitor) and why i use them instead.
‘i get a 10% discount and free shipping’
‘ten percent? are you sure it isn’t five percent?’
‘yes’
‘wow’
anyhow.. he gave me some free stuff (a nice chicken developement poster, among other things) and then, as he was leaving, i got up to shake his hand and thank him for coming by… and says “holy &*$% you’re tall”.
great way to do business, isn’t it?

Where I discuss: redundancy in time
have you ever heard someone say something like “it’s 2am in the morning”? why do they say it? does it make any sense? are they clarifying that it isn’t 2pm in the morning?
and do they ever say “it’s 2pm in the afternoon”?
i just don’t understand it…

Where I discuss: the test of parental love
okay, well… all that unconditional parental love stuff i was alluding to yesterday was just put to the test.
i was changing geneva’s diaper. now, this isn’t a challenge to my love for her, but still… it’s a good testimony of that love. i mean… i wipe her poop of her butt for crying out loud. it’s gotta say something, right?
okay.. so i was changing her diaper earlier. she’s only had one case of diaper rash, and it wasn’t even that bad. but we’ve been putting this free sample of balmex on for preventative purposes. so anyhow… i had wiped her butt and was applying the balmex, and the next thing i know poop is flying out of her butt directly onto my hand. now… this isn’t ordinary poop… it’s baby poop. that means it’s like, super-diahrea.
that, ladies and gentlemen, is a true test of love and patience.
ps- i do NOT recommend using this test to see if your boyfriend or girlfriend is ‘the one’.
