Where I discuss: a silly atheist

The Setup:
On my floor here at work, there is a fire extinguisher attached to the wall. It sits in a red box, with a glass face, and a small metal rod hanging off the side. If there is a fire, you use the rod to break the glass to get the extinguisher out.
Next to this red box, to the left, is a drinking fountain. It is arranged in such a way, that when you bend over and turn your head to take a drink from the fountain, you see the side of the red box.

The Story:
I stepped out of my office, and walked toward the water fountain to get a drink (The red box was between me and the water fountain). One of the adjunct instructors was standing on the opposite side of the red box, between it and the water fountain, and seemed to be picking at something on it.
Now, I should say a little something about this instructor. He spends the majority of his office hours on his computer reading the forums at www.infidels.org. He is an apostate, now preferring the atheistic worldview. He promotes evolution as fact in his courses, and openly mocks faith of any kind (apparently, he doesn’t recognize his faith in naturalism), but particularly Christianity.
So, back to the story. He was standing there, between the water fountain and red fire extinguisher box. The two are only about two feet apart*, so it seemed like a strange place to be standing.
Well, when I stepped out of my office and began walking in his direction, he stepped away and went downstairs. When I got to the fountain, and took a drink, I saw what he had been doing.
Someone had placed a sticker on the red box, and he was peeling it off. The sticker red “If you do not repent or your sins, you will perish.”

I had to laugh. Now, granted a sticker next to a water fountain is a pretty sad way to witness and proclaim the gospel, it still presents the truth and people obviously see it. I find it quite humorous that this man that denies that Christianity could possibly be true and believes his worldview is such a more advanced and reasonable one, spends his time peeling little stickers off of walls.

* I just went back to measure the distance between the red box and the fountain, and the sticker is now completely gone!

Where I discuss: strange wedding

Last month we went to my cousin’s wedding. Despite it being a Roman Catholic wedding, it was a nice little wedding. She is not very religious, so the catholic aspect of it was really just scrappings. It was simple and fairly quick, with some humorous incidents to make is all complete.

The reception was nice, too. Food, Music and Drink. What more could you ask for? A beautiful woman, perhaps, but I had that, too. One strange thing was that, when Bride and Groom made their introduction to the reception, the song playing in the background was Follow Me by Uncle Cracker. here’s a snippet of the lyrics:

don’t worry ’bout the ring you wear
just as long as no one knows
Then nobody can care
Your feelin guilty
And I’m well aware
But you don’t look ashamed
And baby I’m not scared

Seems awfully peculiar to be playing that at a wedding reception. But maybe that’s just me (but not really).

My dad was able to come to the wedding, so it was good to see him there. He had planned to come home with us that evening, and stay through the weekend. He ended up staying there, and then coming up Sunday morning to go to church and spend the day with us. He went down to Raliegh for work Monday morning.
