house. divided.

It’s official. We are now homeowners. Weird.

We’ve been in the house twice since it became ours Friday afternoon. Made two trips over with boxes of stuff, mostly clothes that the girls have grown out of and books. We’ll be living there in about two weeks or so.

Now we just need to get someone to move into where we currently live, so we won’t have to pay another month’s rent. Our lease goes through August. lalala.

Here’s an interesting quote, from John Calvin, regarding the Lord’s Supper:

But as for the outward ceremony of the action – whether or not the believers take it in their hands, or divide it among themselves, or severally eat what has been given to each; whether they hand the cup back to the deacon or give it ot the next person; whether the bread is leavened or unleavened; the wine red or white – it makes no difference. These things are indifferent and left at the church’s discretion. [ICR 4.17.43]

Division occurs over such petty issues. Especially in reformed churches, which really ought to know better.

What are your thoughts on the latest Credenda (15-2) cover? Anyone offended by it?

The Matrix: Reloaded

So, we saw the movie yesterday.

Other than the five or so minutes I spent looking at my wife’s face rather than the movie screen, I enjoyed the movie. I can’t say I entirely got it, but I did enjoy it. The first time I saw The Matrix was on video, so I had the opportunity to watch it again the next day. And then again before returning the film. I was able to really pick up some details.

I wish I could do that with The Matrix: Reloaded. Except, of course, of that five or so minutes of naked Neo and Trinity interspersed with something going on with a lot of partly naked people (I can’t say I really know what’s going on, as I didn’t watch. But I’ve heard it was an orgy). I’d especially like to see the conversation with the Architect again. I didn’t quite pick up on all that was going on in there.

Maybe I’ll rent the DVD when it comes out.

ashley’s asylum

You couldn’t pay me to be somewhere else right now.

I’m sitting here, rather hot, reading a few blogs, a few forums. And I’m watching my youngest daughter, Ashley, while Megan’s in the shower. Ashley is just about seven months old, and is discovering mobility. But she hasn’t quite found it yet. At least, not with consistency.

Anyhow, she’s pseudocrawling around in circles, with a toy. She’ll switch between rocking back and forth on all fours and scooching around until she finally gets her hands on the toy. And then squeal with joy. Briefly. Children her age tire quickly of such nonsense. So she’ll begin to whine, toss the toy aside, and let out a wail. But before she can get through the initial burst of out, she hears her toy tink-tink-tinky on the ground next to her. She looks quickly and sees the bright orange, and – I have decided – wants it in her clutches. We then repeat the whole scenario.

…Until she finds the top of the Wal-Mart-bag-acting-as-a-garbage-bag folded over the edge of the pale. That is now her new desire. I allow her to pull it so the bottom of the bag, once at the bottom of the container, now looks like saran wrap over a bowl of salad. Well, I can’t have her playing with plastic bags and all that rot, so I remove her tightly clasped fingers from the bag. And the real noise begins. It is clear that nothing is more important than that blue bag, with a smiley face on it.

Now she’s in Mom’s arms, looking over her shoulder at me, smiling like the wonderful little thing that she is.

And people don’t want as many of these things as they can get?

Matrix:Reloaded reviews

Here are various reviews I’d like to read of The Matrix: Reloaded after I see it next week. Please, if you know of anything other well thought of folks have said, share.

Oh, and then there’s Nate Wilson’s review in the latest Credenda. I haven’t yet read it, but my wife tells me it’s rather scathing.

Animatrix

Last night, due to several positive things I’d heard about it and being excited to see The Matrix: Reloaded on Tuesday, we watched Animatrix. What a bad idea.

I don’t know who it is that enjoys watching cartoons of women in their underwear, but it sure isn’t me. And why would anyone want to watch a photo-realistic computer animation of a man and a woman cutting their clothes off of each other? And, more troubling, why didn’t it seem to bother anyone else?

Anyhow, the best part of Animatrix, the only part that was worth watching, was the backstory it gave in The Second Renaissance parts I and II , and the various little details in the others.

I read somewhere about someone liking the haunted house one, Beyond. I thought that one was okay, kind of fun. But I didn’t get any message out of it as this person did. Maybe I’m just too left brained or something.

The whole experience was terribly disappointing.

Wodehouse

I haven’t been reading much lately, so to get out of the slump I picked up a Wodehouse novel last night. My goodness, I know it’s been said so many times before by so many people, but the man was truly a comic genius.

I’m reading The Luck of the Bodkins, just finished chapter five. And it is already set to be a hilarious adventure. The way he sets things up, and the numerous connections that crop up… I’m telling you, nobdoy does it like Wodehouse.

I need to start buying those hardbacks that are being published now. These little mass market deals aren’t going to stand up to the number of readings Wodehouse books are going to get in our household.

Leave it to Psmith hardback next month! Woohoo!

Inspection and appraisal have both checked out. No more contingencies on our part. If all goes well, we’ll be home owners by the end of the month.

whew.
