Sproul JR misrepresentin’

Cutting Off One’s Nose

Here’s RC Sproul, Jr. pretending* suggesting that the Federal Vision teaches that “looking to your baptism” has nothing to do with persevering in faith, trusting in Christ alone for salvation. Why is it so difficult to understand that our baptism is an assurance to us because we are looking at it in faith? That our baptism assures us because in it God promises many things to us, and we believe Him. Looking at our baptism is looking at Christ.

It’s rather frustrating, isn’t it?

*I have been rebuked and corrected by a gracious and loving individual. “Pretending” suggests that RC was deliberate in his mischaracterization, and that is not something I intended to imply. I do not believe that RC is intentionally misrepresenting the FV.

I do believe, however, that there is no excuse for his public misrepresentation when the actual FV position is so readily available at so many sources, particularly for someone like RC, who has the privlege of one-to-one contact with many of the men involved.

for sale

We’re selling our car. (that is a minor point to this story… but we are selling it, a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus. We need something bigger now. You can email if you’re interested. Maybe one day I’ll put up an ad page like the Stewarts).

So, this morning I was getting the oil changed, and a man came up and asked me about the car (since he had seen it was for sale). I told him some details, and he asked why we are selling it. I told him we need something bigger, and then pointed at the two car seats in the back, and said we were expecting another. He looked at me in shock, and exclaimed “You’ve got two and are expecting another?! Don’t you know what causes that??”

I was actually quite thrilled to have this particular comment, because I got to put into practice one of the witty replies we and friends come up with to such comments.

I replied, “Yeah. And we really like it.”

He didn’t buy the car.

trashed?

Sometimes you just have to laugh. The cleaning people around here gave me a chuckle.

I ordered a dozen or so penlights for an A&P lab. The other day I opened them all up, and put the wrappings in a box next to the garbage can. Here is a picture:

And when I came in the next day, the box was left there, with this note attached:

I don’t know… I just find it funny. I want to put a new note that says, “Oh, you’re right. This box full of old ripped up empty packages right next to the garbage can is something I really need! Thanks for leaving it here!”

hello undies

Yesterday, we bought Geneva some Hello Kitty underwear. She is very excited. She tried a pair on when we got home and ran all around the house.

Hopefullly they will be incentive enough to make her start using the potty.

down with flash

I’ve decided I hate flash. I have two browsers on my computer… ie and firefox. Firefox is my default browser, and I don’t have the flashplugin installed. I still that stupid little shape asking to install the plugin all over the place, and each time I am glad that I don’t have it.

If I really need to view the page, then I’ll open ie and look at it in there. But I’m doing that less and less. Typically, if I come across a site that requires flash, I’ll just close the window. Oh well. So sorry.

Legal Bootlegging

Not that I’m a big Metallica fan, but this sounds like a good idea to me.

You can buy high quality recordings of each of their shows. Definitely will cut down on illegal bootlegging, and you can have a permanent record of a show you attended, or hear a show that you weren’t able to attend. More bands ought to consider it…

This is pretty fun. (and Barb is right, the design is hideous)

And, of course, one must recognize that this mutation, while likely being beneficial in many ways, results in a loss of information. The child cannot make a particular protein that the rest of us can.

Evolutionists would like to use this example, and others like it (antibiotic resistent bacteria, for instance) as proof of their theory. However, it is not. In order for evolution to be a viable theory, it would need to be shown that mutations can create new information.

Stem Cells

Daniel McConchie of the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity writes an interesting article: Adult Stem Cells – 3, Embryonic Stem Cells – 0

Embryonic stem cells are not helpful, despite all the celebrity rage in favor of them. Rather, it is the adult stem cells that seem to be actually advancing healthcare. We shouldn’t be killing people for this research (not that we should even if embryonic stem cells were effective).
