Over My Head

Over My Head
Andrew Peterson

she was a fine theologian who passed for a pope
and she never ever was able to say
that she wanted no more of the bishops and the boards
what she needed was a good man for a day
so she wept in her chambers and burned like a flame
for a man by the name of sir ‘next dope who came in the room’

she said, i’m in over my, over my, over my head
if they knew i was nothing but gold plated lead
they’d stone me, dethrone me and leave me for dead
i’m in over my, over my head

well the bishop from thames had a bloody good name
and was good looking devil to boot
so when he showed up that evening for the annual meeting
with the pope that he thought that he knew
understandably stunned that the pope was a nun
the bishop initially started to run
but their meetings were frequent and secretly done
and she told him that a baby would come

he said, i’m in over my, over my, over my head
if they knew i was nothing but gold plated lead
they’d stone me, dethrone me and leave me for dead
i’m in over my, over my head
i’m in over my, over my head

well i live in nashvegas and i sing and i play
and everybody thinks that i write my own
there’s a fellow named guido who lives in encino
who wrote every song that i know
well, he sends mp3s for a nominal fee
and i sing ‘em, and play ‘em, and tell ‘em it’s me

i’m in over my, over my, over my head
if they knew i was nothing but gold plated lead
they’d stone me, disown me and leave me for dead
i’m in over my, over my head
i’m in over my, over my head

I’m not sure if it’ll be any good, but the first few posts are pretty funny… www.coolestchristianever.com

I just looked at an old post from april, and noticed that in the comments kristen asked a question that I never saw.

Yes, kristen, that’s the same show. Unless Christiana heard the song somewhere else, also. But it was the Winston-Salem show that I recorded.

(if anyone is curious, I found that post because I searched google for “Mohawks on the Scaffold” and Gaines’ blog post came up)

Great God of Wonders is a hymn we like to sing at Providence. Especially the bass part on the refrain (or whatever).

Anyhow… here’s an mp3 of a snippet (I don’t have enough space to put the whole thing up – email me if you want that) of us singing it at a psalm sing a while back. The piano plays through once, and then we start to sing.

This is on page 302 of the Cantus, if anyone’s interested in that.

I figure Labor Day is now close enough for me to put the counter at the top of the page…

In his article, Rome Won’t Have Me, Rick Lusk writes,

In no way do I believe that our works produce or cause our justification. In no way do I suggest our works satisfy God’s justice or form the ground of the favorable verdict we receive. These things shouldn’t even come up for discussion; they’re not on the table with the AAT as far as I can tell.

I couldn’t agree with him more, and I’ve found myself saying the exact same thing on many occasions over the past few years. Let us hope that he will actually be believed. But, judging from the track record of those he is defending against, I don’t have much hope.

The fact is, it just doesn’t matter. He, and other “Federal Visionaries”, have been given the rotten “Romish” label, and that settles it. To paraphrase one actual reply to Douglas Wilson’s teaching, “he can affirm sola fide til he’s blue in the face, but a heap of dung by any other name smells just as foul.” The decison has already been made, and now all they have to do is prove it. And, of course, their method of proving it is by going through FV teachings, picking out the quotes they don’t like and ignoring everything else. Or, if it isn’t ignored, it is flatly denied as being honest.

I think we’ve got something to learn

After reading this post from Barb, I realized that my background wasn’t showing up right in mozilla. And there was a little code error.
