Imperitives

At our Men’s Forum Saturday morning, we began discussing Ed Gross’s book, Will My Children Go To Heaven?. We only read the first two chapters, which total only about 10 or 12 pages. So it was very much an introduction.

One topic we discussed, which Gross mentions, is reminding God of His promises to us. I piped in and said we can (and should) take it a step further… and tell God to keep His promises. I said we should pray, “God, You have given me these promises in Your word. I believe you. Now keep Your word, and bring about these promises in my life”. That got some hackles up.

We also discussed the nature of belief, and how it isn’t mere assent. When we say we believe God, it isn’t mere assent. It comes out our fingertips. In the book, Gross makes a distinction between beliefs and convictions, saying the former doesn’t have a profound affect on how we live our lives, the latter being what we base our lives around.
