use of time.

For the past 45 minutes or so (mostly since LOST was over) Megan has been at the computer playing on jkrowling.com. She never got to experience the excitement of that site when we had dial-up. Took way too long. But, today she discovered it and is now officially an addict.

I think she has warmed up to dsl. :)

meanwhile I’ve been trying to get the connect music store to work on my laptop. It won’t. The navigation links just don’t show up. I don’t get it. It works fine on the desktop, though, so I can at least get my free songs with that. I am perplexed, though, about the issue on the lappy.

iTunes SotW-Sunshine

Posted by: richard   in Everyday Things

iTunes’ free song of the week isn’t too bad, as I’m listening to it for the first time. It’s called Sunshine by Billy Miles. It’s a woman… which is a little weird, since her name is Billy. The vocals sound very familiar, and I know who they sound like… but I can’t remember her name. She had a big single about five years ago.

anyhow… check it out. It’s free!

What I find most interesting, though, is the slight variation of the Target logo and typeface Australian Target has.

40Gb?

Posted by: richard   in Everyday Things

Just about two years ago, I said, “I’ve been looking for an external hard drive to hold all my mp3s and various other files. I figured 40GB would be far more than I would ever need.”

Ha! It isn’t full, but I know that I can fill it up pretty easily. It is most definitely not far more than I will ever need.

I read yesterday about a guy that is installing a 400GB hard drive in his system that already has 300GB. My response was basically wonder at why anyone would need that much space. But, I would have been better to just hold my tongue. It won’t be long before we all have hard drives measured in terabytes.

Return of the King commentary….

Billy Boyd: I love Minas Tirith. I just love looking at it.
Dominic Monaghan: Yeah, you’ve said that!
Billy Boyd: Well, I still like it.

radiohead

Posted by: richard   in Everyday Things

last night I dreamed that I stumbled upon a box of used radiohead cds for sale. It was many copies of all their albums. They were like two dollars each. I was going through the box, frantically trying to remember which albums the folks at the .net said were the ones to get. But I couldn’t remember. I think there were two that I remembered. But, now that I think about it, I’m not even sure they are actual radiohead albums.

ccl archive

Posted by: richard   in Everyday Things

Since July of last year I’ve maintained the unofficial ccl archive. I’ve put a link up for every article posted on the center for cultural leadership website.

But, now that I’m not logging in to blogger anymore, I don’t think I’ll keep up with it. Maybe if a really good article is posted I’ll link it. But, I think it’ll just go away. And, I don’t think anyone will miss it. So, good bye old friend.

connect

Posted by: richard   in Everyday Things

I have cards that add up to 13 free downloads from Sony’s Connect music store. I got 8 with my laptop, and I’ve had a card for 5 for a while now. Anyhow… I’ve never gotten around to signing up for the store because it took so long to download all the parts for each page. The iTunes store took a while, but it wasn’t even as bad. So last night, now that I’ve got zippy internet access, I was registering. But, man, it is really annoying all the drm crap you have to deal with. When you sign up with the connect store you have to register your computer to access it, etc. etc. It’s really a bother.
Plus, you have to access the store through Sony’s SonicStage software, which is just frumpy and difficult to work with anyhow. I use it for part of our sermon processing. The church has a nice HiMD minidisc player, which allows for highspeed transfer of live recordings. But you have to do that through SonicStage. I then convert to wav and burns cds and make the mp3 from that. It’s all very cool, and fast. But, SonicStage… bloated and awkward. So the store is pretty much like that, too.

But… 13 free songs, right? Can’t let that go to waste.
