childrens bible
Not too long ago we got The Child’s Story Bible for the girls. It looks good, but it wasn’t what we are expecting. There really aren’t any pictures, and there is a lot of text. I’m sure we’ll get a lot of use out of it in the coming years, but right now most of it is too much for them to listen to in one sitting.
Still, Megan was reading to them from it the other day, and they had it out and were looking through it. In the beginning there are several pictures of major events… being cast out of the garden, noah, abraham…
Geneva was looking at those pictures and asking about them, and so I was just telling her the stories about it. She was very interested in it. She kept asking for more and more details about different things, and, of course, the perennial question ‘Why?’. It was a lot of fun for me to teach her those things, and answer her questions. I think she had fun, too.

primer.
We watched primer last night. I liked it. It was just the type of movie that I like… twists and turns and a plot that boggles the mind. I didn’t get half the movie. I need to watch it again to really understand it. Maybe even a third time with the director’s commentary on.
I’ve been reading some things on the forum at primermovie.com, and it is even more confusing than I thought.

The Phantom of the Opera In Good Company
Oh, how could I forget to post about some movies we watched last weekend. Megan was feeling a bit under the weather, so we watched two movies over the weekend. The first was Friday night… we watched The Phantom of the Opera.
The only knowledge I had of the story before watching was the common organ bit from the music. Megan, on the other hand, owns a copy of the score and songs and whatnot from some performance. But she had never seen it, so didn’t know the details of the story.
Anyhow… it was okay. Kind of weird. I’m not sure I understand why it is such a big deal. Must be one of those High Culture things that haven’t learned to appreciate. Or something. For a day or so after watching it Megan sang the songs around the house.
Next we watched In Good Company, which has been on my list of films to watch since I first saw the trailer way back when. It was okay. Not as good as I was hoping. The Alex character bothered me. Some parts were really funny. I think Dennis Quaid did a great job, and so did little Topher Grace, for the most part.

good standing.
Andrew Sandlin recently gave a (friendly) criticism of the Federal Vision.
In part, he said,
Salvation in the end is nearly reduced to getting baptized and staying in good standing with the church, a naturalization of the Christian life.
And I have to ask myself, what’s wrong with that? I guess it’s one’s understanding of what being in good standing in the Church is. To me, that means believing God, loving Jesus, being faithful. All that. If a person doesn’t have faith in Christ, they aren’t in good standing in the Church.

zoo.
We’re heading up to the National Zoo this weekend. So, if you’re in town, go to the zoo, and you may see me and my troop tromping around. Looking at monkeys and bears and tigers and all the other fun animals.
I’m especially excited for the girls. They’re going to have the best time… I am succesfully forming them into little biology nerds. They love this stuff. I’ll have to remember to take plenty of pictures, and also video.

Regenerate Children
This is something I have been thinking about lately. Let me see if I can articulate this.
My youngest child is eight, she will be nine July 4th. She was baptized two years ago, after she made a profession of faith. We were credo then.
My question is how do we know that our children are regenerated? My obvious concern would be death at this age. My daughter is certainly a most godly child. But I have known children who, for all appearances, were Christian children and then grew to adulthood in apostasy (my 24 year old for one) and were obviously never regenerated.
She also desires to partake of the Lord’s Supper, but I haven’t yet allowed her to in our new church.

hebrews 6
In Hebrews 6, the author gives a pretty stern and frightening warning about falling away. He goes on, though, to assure them that he does not believe they will fall away, even though he is giving them this warning.
What is the basis of his assurance they will not apostatize?
Verse 10: “For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”
But what’s this?? God looking at their works? Scandalous!

Megan says:
Geneva is always making loud comments lately about things. For instance:
“That mommy has loud shoes on!”
“Girls wear earrings. Boys don’t wear earrings!”
And various comments about what people are doing, or asking why they are doing things…

another!
Today I got my second comment spam! I guess titling a post ‘mp3′ wasn’t such a hot idea, since that has attracted both spammers. This time, though, I marked it as spam.
what an adventure!
