have to laugh

When, in response to the Louisiana Presbytery (PCA) report on Federal Vision Theology), someone comments, “IMO Louisiana Presby exoneration means nothing but enforces the fact that perhaps the Presby isn’t orthodox”, the only appropriate response I can come up with is to laugh and shake my head.

What, “I believe we should trust the church governments to work this out. Just as long as they agree with me, of course. If not, I will turn right around and sit in judgment over them” doesn’t sound like convincing logic to you?

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go back to sitting on my hands. :-/

Ladies and Gentlemen, behold our heritage!

Even the way it is phrased boggles my mind… ‘the fact that LA P perhaps isn’t orthodox’.

And Mike, I’d temper that to, “Behold the traditional abuse of our heritage.” Our heritage is “Unless I am convicted by Scripture and plain reason…my conscience is captive to the Word of God. … Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise. God help me, Amen.” Not, “I refuse to be convicted even by Scripture and plain reason…my conscience is captive to my own prejudices. … Here I sit, I cannot do otherwise. God helps those who help themselves, Amen.”

I’m with Richard, laughing and shaking my head…literally.

Valerie, will you claim to be unbiased in that opinion?

I’m quite certain that the commenter Richard referenced would use Luther’s mantra to justify his absurdity.

Mike, I will claim to have tried to be unbiased. I certainly don’t have any biases about the issue — I make no claim to understand FVT well enough to have an opinion. So my reaction to this commenter doesn’t have anything to do with whether I think the La. Presbytery was right or wrong, just with whether her response is within the realm of acceptability.

Sigh…I’m supposed to be sitting on my hands. Now I have to doubt whether my response is within the realm of acceptability. :-(

Valerie,

The opinion I referenced has more to do with “heritage” or “abuse of heritage” rather than FVT.

The more appropriate question might be: What does the Church say about it?
