You Are Special

Posted by: richard   in Dinner Conversation

Last night, before bed, I read You Are Special to the girls. It’s a good little book, and the girls like it. It’s fun to read to them. The sequels, from what I’ve browsed at the bookstore, aren’t as good.

Anyhow… last night as I was reading it to them, it lead to a discussion about baptism. We got to talking about how we were baptized, and when we were baptized and so forth. It was a fun conversation. I told them that Fiona was sprinkled by Pastor Hurt… how he put his hand in a bowl of water, and scooped some out and sprinkled it on her. And Ashley was baptized the same way. Geneva, though, was baptized by pouring. We talked about that, and also how they were all babies when they were baptized.

And then Geneva asked, “How did Pastor Hurt baptized you when you were a little baby?” Cute! I told her that I wasn’t a baby when I was baptized, and Pastor Hurt didn’t baptize me. I was sprinkled by Pastor Horner, I said. Then she asked how Pastor Horner baptized Mommy. Cute again! I don’t know who baptized Megan, but she was immersed. So I told them about how she was put under water. Ashley asked, “Did she get water up her nose?” I said she probably did, a little. Ashley went on to say how she went under water at the pool.

A little bit later Megan came in (she had been off feeding Fiona). So I asked Geneva to tell Megan how she was baptized. And Geneva said, “Pastor Hurt got some water in a bowl, and poured it on my head. And Daddy was sprinkled up and Ashley and Fiona got sprinkled up! And you were dunked under!”

At that point I was all cuted out.
