WordMp3 podcast

   Posted by: richard   in Doctrine

Gregg Strawbridge at WordMp3.com has started a podcast. The first installment is Trinitarian Marriage by Doug Wilson. It is one of his talks from this year’s Reforming Marriage Conference that Providence put on back in July. We’re going to have another one this summer if you like what you hear.

The Longer I Lay Here

   Posted by: richard   in Music

I’m on a pretty heavy Pedro the Lion kick…

The Longer I Lay Here
Pedro the Lion

You’re up with the sunrise
And down when the works been done
With excellence, industry, diligence naturally
I would like to be you
Just for a few habit forming years
Laziness cuts me like fine cutlery

I need a miracle
Someone to help me help myself

Sweet Jesus, I need you
Forgive me this sin
Not hookers or heroin, gamblin’ or gin
It sounds so ridiculous but I just can’t lick this

I need a miracle
Someone to help me help myself
Someone to help me help myself

If you’ve read the article… particularly the first paragraphs (that are ripped up), you’ll get it, too.

Narnia

   Posted by: richard   in Movies

Last night we went out to dinner and then went to see Narnia. I loved it. I am a purist, and so the changes bothered me, but not enough to distract from all that they got right, which was everything that mattered, I think. The only gripe I have is that I don’t think Aslan’s voice was as powerful as it ought to be.

Definitely see this one.

Wild Ride

Megan and the girls came in to work with me today. As we were walking down the hall to head downstairs, Ashley spoke up, “Can we ride the alligator down?”

Self-Discipline

Posted by: richard   in Dinner Conversation

I just experienced something kind of strange. Ashley was playing with our cordless phone. I told her she isn’t allowed to play with it, and she said “Yes sir” and put it down. Then, ten or so minutes later, Geneva did something that required discipline. So I did that.

Then Ashley came back to me, and said she needed a spanking. I asked her why, and she said because she was playing with the phone. I said she didn’t need a spanking for that. And she began crying. She cried that she did need a spanking, she did. I told her several times that she didn’t need a spanking for it, but she insisted she did, crying more and more each time she said it.

I reached out and put my hand on her shoulder and said to her, “Ashley, I forgive you for touching the phone. You are all forgiven”. She reached up and gave me a hug and was satisfied. I guess she had a conviction about that phone.

edit: When I told Megan about this story, she informed me that Ashley was actually caught with the phone again, and that’s why she came back to me saying she needed a spanking. So she really did need one. At least she didn’t just walk away after I told her she didn’t need one. I’m glad she didn’t want to cheat like that.
