Uncontrollable Grace
Doug Wilson, today, writes about whether or not the Lord’s Supper is a converting ordinance. In the midst of his post, he says the following,
But we are not supposed to take the sacraments of God and try to use them as though they were techniques of ours. These have no handles on them, we cannot manipulate them. Whenever we try, all we get are vain superstitions.
And I just think, ‘my, how glorious’. Can’t you just picture it? Doesn’t it just make so much good sense?
God works through the sacraments, but we can’t use them to our own ends. We can’t baptize a person and infallibly declare him to be a true believer, glory bound. We can’t use the sacraments to determine such things. We do what God says for us to do, and He does what He pleases.
