Blue Flamingoes

Ashley (standing on one leg): Dad! Look! Flamingoes do this.
Me: That’s right, they do.
(Ashley falls over)
Me: Do they do that, too?
(laughing all around)
Ashley (on one leg again): Girl flamingoes do this.
Me: What color are flamingoes?
Ashley: Pink!
Me: Are boy flamingoes pink?
Ashley: … No! They are… blue!
(pause)
Ashley: I’ve never seen a boy flamingo.
