So, last I posted on here (I believe), my iPod was broken, and I didn’t quite know what to do.
Well, what I decided to do was buy a broken iPod on ebay, and use the parts to fix mine. Thus I did. Only, the auction I won was for a lot of two broken iPods. I paid 67.45 total for both iPods and shipping. I received them, used the parts to repair my iPod (but not before breaking an additional part), and all was well.
Then I sold the two broken iPods on ebay, individually. After shipping and paypal fees are deducted, I brought in $67.40 from the sales. Alls well that ends well.
Except, a week or so after the repair, I left my iPod in my office overnight. Not the smartest thing to do, you might say. True. But, I figured there was thousands of dollars worth of the college’s equipment in my office, and if it was secure enough for that, my iPod would be secure also. Not So. It was stolen. So I reported the loss to campus police.
The very next morning a man (Dan) from the company we have contracted to do our night time janitorial activities gives me a call. He says, “I understand you lost an iPod recently?” Yes, I said, I did. And he proceeds to tell me they are going to make it right, and asks if I would prefer them to buy a new iPod for me or to send me a check. I asked for the money, and so a few days later I got a check for $313.95. This is the $299 value I reported, plus tax.
So, it took me just a short while to decide whether or not to replace the iPod or just keep the money. Once the decision was made to replace the iPod, it took me considerably longer to decide whether I wanted the 30gb iPod (video) or an 8gb Nano. I debated this for about a week, before I decided on the 30gb. And I went with white, because I’m a classic sort of guy. I also went with a refurbished one, which cost about $50 less than a new one.
I placed the order Thursday the week before last, and even though it said it would arrive by the 16th when I ordered it, I didn’t actually get it until Friday. And I am now enjoying my tunes once again while I work.
I also surprised Megan with a refurbished shuffle. She has taken up running pretty seriously, and now she has a little iPod to go out with her on her jaunts.
So at the end of the day, I have two current model iPods and an extra fifty bucks in my pocket. Not a bad deal, I say.
