hey, aren’t you in a band?

so tonight being thursday, i went and hung out with my friends zach and jacob. taylor is MIA right now while his house is being fixed, so it was just the three of us. we went to the nearby barnes and noble and sat down at drank some starbucks. we sat there musing about macrosick, mute math, and the upcoming weekend. when we got up, we started to make our way to the movie section, when the lady at a nearby table asks me “are you guys in a band?” so i politely said “no, but jacob is” (which he is) and she said “well, that’s okay. you guys just look like you’d be in a cool band.” haha, so yeah, even though i can’t play an instrument and couldn’t sing to save my life, i look like i could be a part of a cool band. nice.

to get to work this week, len and i have been riding the bus. our company started a bus service from neighboring towns (including slidell) to help workers avoid the traffic (which is horrendous!). i really love it, because lately, my car has been like an R-rated movie. i’ve been cursing a lot more since the hurricane and i’m trying to curb it. anyway, its like a magic bus in the afternoons. we start a nap when we get on the bus and the next thing you know, we’re back at the parking lot in slidell about to get off. i don’t know how the bus skips all the traffic to make the trip in half an hour, i haven’t been awake for that yet. this morning i woke up suddenly to find out i was supposed to get off. talk about embarrassing. anyway, the bus is really cool, and i’m glad i don’t have to deal with the afternoon traffic for a while.

roofs, reviews, and road trips…

so the roof is done. :) its pretty exciting, and today i talked to a guy who can actually do the rest of the work that needs to be done, so hopefully he’ll actually come thursday like i talked to him about today. these contractors say a lot of things, but it takes a special one to actually come when he says. anyway, but things are looking to be done for the middle of december, which would be awesome. i was hoping thanksgiving, but that’s not looking likely anymore, esp since thanksgiving is next week! here are some pictures. (also some memphis pictures are loaded too). be sure to see the before and after. :)

the new blog is taking off i guess. chad just posted a review of a hootie show he went to recently, and coming up a three part series of ‘the state of dmb‘ with parts from me, and my fellow dmb fans and longtime friends marika and robbi. should be fun to read. :)

i’m so excited for friday night. jacob and i are going to hit up a movie theatre and see the new johnny cash movie, ‘walk the line‘. after having been in the actual sun studio, to see production pictures of them filming there was really cool. i had read about cash’s spiritual journey, and i’m really looking forward to how much they deal with that in the movie. it was really powerful.

oh, and i’m going to clemson the weekend after thanksgiving (ie first weekend in december). no football game, but i think i’ll be able to hit up a basketball game while i’m there. i don’t know if i’ve looked forward to a trip there more than i am this one. ;)

progress is being made…

so memphis was great. i did all the things i wanted to and more. friday, i struck an elvis pose in sun studio, i bought some cool elvis shades, then we went out for dinner and drinks. saturday we went to graceland which was incredible. i don’t know why, but it just blends so many different elements together and is good. i kept saying “there’s nothing like this in the world!” then after that, we went to the national civil rights museum, which was amazing. i highly recommend if you ever go to memphis those three things. anyway, hanging out with jeff and heather was awesome. and i’ll be seeing them again in december for the yearly trek to nashville.

i finally was able to get a copy of the new david crowder band album, a collision. it is mind blowing. i’ve been listening to it constantly. all the songs sounded great live, but i really had never heard them before, but now being able to listen to them over and over, i’m amazed at how good the lyrics are, how good the music is, etc. glad i didn’t delay in getting it like i did the last one.

the roof is coming! they are starting on my roof tomorrow, should be finished by thursday. it will be great. now if i can find a guy to do the rest of what needs to be done….hopefully soon.

leaving town…

ahhh, i’m going out of town this weekend, first trip since the hurricane. i’m really looking forward to it. i had talked about going to memphis a while back, so using the freedom being unattached has, i decided to go and contacted a couple of people. the wonderful and kind greens have heard my cry and will be allowing me to crash at their humble abode. i’ll finally get to go to graceland! i’ve been on a big elvis kick the past couple of weeks, so i’m strangely very excited to go to the king’s former home. plus tomorrow i’ll get to check out where johnny cash cut his first record.

my friend ryan is moving to jackson this weekend, so tonight a couple of us went to chili’s to celebrate the big move. for once, we had a really nice waitress, and she smelled good too. (but she was engaged :() the last time i had gone there with scott and len, the waiter didn’t write anything down, took 30 min to get our appetizers, so in other words, he got stiffed on the tip.

in other news, a few high school kids tried pathetically to roll my house. my sad little tree in the front yard had a roll of toilet paper through it. when i was in high school, we had a lot more organization and talent than that. they didn’t even try to throw it over the house! wait, did i just sound really old or mischievious?

no leaks and new articles…

you know what’s great? waking up and its raining outside and knowing your roof is NOT leaking. it was awesome. i fell asleep on the couch last night, woke up this morning about 4:45 and heard it raining. then realized, “hey, those tarps are holding really good, no water in the house”. it was a good morning.

found out my elizabethtown review got posted on circle six. whoever edited it added two typos that people at work found (see if you can find them). i checked my original and made sure i had not made them. i don’t know what’s up with that. the new design’s pretty nifty i must say. as is the switchfoot interview done by jacob. i told you he had connections! your’s truly added the question about kanye. rock on.

work today was another generic day. nothing exciting. but i think i’ve narrowed down my options for career move…go into finance and get my MBA. i’d stay in the same program at work, and they’d pay for the mba i would assume. i wouldn’t have to leave the company or go to grad school (the other option) to get a degree that i think is what i want to do. so i could play out that option and see how it turns out before doing something completely drastic.

alright, so here’s the best part of the day. i had gotten this email from lost highway and there were a couple of trivia questions at the bottom with contests for each. one was about ryan adams and you won the september dvd. the other was about johnny cash, and you won a shirt. so i sent in answers for both, hoping more for the dvd cause i have enough shirts. i never heard a response, so i figured i did not win. i get home today and at my door is an envelope from nashville. so i open it up and it is the september dvd. you can watch the whole thing on ryan’s LH website, but the dvd includes a couple of audio tracks too. plus the picture’s pretty clear. anyway, it was a good day.
