the story of the fungus goo…

so tonight i got home from work and decided “i’m going to sit out in my backyard with a fire and a good book.” i pulled the firepit out, grabbed some wood from the backyard, and sat in my collapsable chair and began to read the first harry potter book (i had gotten in last christmas). i added more wood as needed and had put on this piece a bit too long for the firepit, but i figured the middle would burn and then i’d just tip the halves in later. so ‘later’ i go to grab the end of the wood, and my hand is greeted by a foaming goo. who knew fungus would goo up and ooze out the side of a piece of wood? i mean, my hand smelled pretty rank after that experience. what else should i have expected though, right? it’s FUNGUS! fortunately it washed off easily, and i was able to complete the first chapter of the book and enjoy the evening. i should do that more often, only without the fungus goo.

football has been dominating my brain lately, so much that i can’t write or think of much else when i sit down to type. look at me, i’m writing about football right now. saturday was a big game for clemson, they had college gameday there, they had the 13th ranked yellow jackets in town, it was a big game. they played lights out and won going away by 24 points. i watched it with some people from the baton rouge clemson club, who i had first met last year in baton rouge when i was living there immediately after katrina. we had a great time watching the game and hanging out, despite the rainy weather outside.

records and websites…

i failed to mention the new vinyl records i was able to get when i was up in NC. my friend dawn was kind enough to purchase and deliver the new john mayer on vinyl for me, the one with the cool white cover. also, i shopped at a used record store and picked up randy newman, kenny rogers, and cheap trick. as cool as those purchases may be, they aren’t quite as good as the original vinyl i ever had….THRILLER! i got that back in the day when vinyl was still a pretty legit format. i’m not even that old! of course, i got it as a gift, and i’m not sure if i even knew who MJ was at the time, i was listening to a lot of disney sing-a-long stuff.

also last week, i had dinner at brian’s. first time i had met him and his wife (in real life anyway), so that was cool. and then we ended up picking a movie to watch based on our inability to remember julia’s fiancee’s name in the wedding singer. we ended up hearing it about 100 times during the movie, so i don’t think any of us are going to forget.

oh yeah, and for you ryan fans (you know who you are!), check out the official website and what is apparently his rap debut. you don’t have to click anything, just load the page. :)

also, some friends and i started a new website and it’s turning out to be pretty fun. it’s not really focused on reviewing music or movies or anything like elitist hacks was. we just write stuff and post it. so check it out. it’s not too advanced yet, but eventually we’ll have things ironed out i think. i just like talking about it, and how exciting it is to think of what we could do with it.

what i’ve been doing the past month…

i’ve done a ton of travelling lately. it’s been really nice though, i like going to different places, seeing different people, doing things i can’t do around here. let’s see if i can provide a good recap….

first i went to tallahassee to go to the clemson/fsu game with my friend chris. how awesome was that game, eh? we also met up with a couple of other clemson friends, one expectedly and one not. we were thankful for the free tailgating food right before we went in the stadium. before we made it there, we had hit up a bar where the most interesting thing was a guy with a tattoo of the seminole logo with a gator in the jaw. fancy! it was a great weekend, and only punctuated when we got to sing the alma mater being victorious and watching the nole fans hang their heads in defeat as they walked out. and i took some pictures.

the next weekend, well, it was a monday, but still, i went to the saints game. i blogged about that and how amazing and incredible that was.

the next weekend i left and went up to north carolina for work. the cool part was i went by myself instead of five other people like last time, so i was able to eat where i wanted instead of the same mexican place 3 times in one week. plus i was able to stay the following weekend with a couple of really awesome friends and hit up the clemson/wake game thanks to my friendandrea who’s in grad school at wake. incidentally, i also met two of her friends, who i owe gratitude for giving me a ticket. the game was a miraculous come back for my tigers and they pulled it out by 10. it was cold, wet, and miserable for three quarters, and i wanted to leave, but i stayed and saw a comeback i will not forget for a long time. for the 2nd straight game i attended, i was able to sing the alma mater as the dejected fans of the opposing team walked past us. plus i was able to hang out with my friend alisa and gain a new perspective on our friendship. very cool. and i took some pictures.

monday night i went to baton rouge to see family force 5. it was the third time seeing them in the past year, and it was awesome once again. and i took some pictures.

today at work, i noticed some odd activity. the guy that sits next to me is known for having candy at his desk, that he pretty much lets people eat whenever since he’s gone from his desk a lot. one older guy comes around in the afternoons usually and gets candy, makes some kind of small talk comment to me and leaves. today he came by and sat down at the desk, dug through the guy’s drawer for his favorite candy, then left. as he was leaving he said “learning anything?” to me i guess as some kind of joke. totally bizarre, and i hope i don’t turn into that kind of mooch later in life. actually, i hope i’m retired by the time i’m that guy’s age. i did not take pictures.
