i went and gave blood yesterday as usual (this time i got a saints t-shirt and a free oil change…what up!)…and during the course of my ‘screening’, my blood pressure came back higher than normal. i have some theories on why that could be right now:
1) i had to wait an hour to even get to the screening. usually i can walk in and go right to the finger prick and temperature reading. so i had an hour to think about and get nervous of “what if the nurse misses my vein?” when i broke my arm back in the day, they had to set it with no anesthesia because the nurse could not find a vein to give me an IV. i still remember the doctor saying “here, put your fingers in here, they’re kind of like chinese handcuffs. now i’m going to put this weight on this part of your arm” EXTREME PAIN!
2) i’m anxiously awaiting news on the Virginia job rotation. i had the 2nd interview on Tuesday with the boss of the guy i had talked to about a week ago. she was nice, and hopefully i made a good impression. she said i’d hear back one way or the other by the end of last week or the beginning of this week. since i didn’t go to work on Friday, there could be a voice mail on my phone with the news. the exciting conclusion will hopefully come tomorrow since my current boss is always asking me what the latest is so he can plan for the next couple of months. i really would love to try something different, so i’m hoping it comes through.
3) i haven’t been running as much since the spring when i messed up my hamstring. i had been running 3 or 4 times a week and had to obviously stop for the hamstring to heal. you know when football players tear theirs and it takes forever for them to recover? that’s pretty much what happened to me. i don’t recommend the hamstring tearing, it’s not fun.
4) football…..between the Clemson/FSU game last week, to the Saints debacle last Thursday, it’s been a high strung week and a half or so. fortunately LSU has not caused me any heartache or worry in their two games.
5) i probably haven’t been eating the best things lately. i’ve been cooking more, but probably not the best things. grilling pork chops and chicken is probably better than steak, but i have kind of gone away from the special K diet i was on a few months ago.
I think it’s a combination of both 3 and 5, both of which i plan on remedying this week. speaking of this week, i’m going to have to get a new phone soon. don’t worry, i’m due for a new one with the verizon credit and everything, but apparently the one i’m replacing (moto e815) is one of their best phones as far as reception. great, so i’m going to have to be replacing a legend. when i can decide on a phone, i hope it’s more steve young replacing joe montana than damon huard replacing dan marino. (and i know what you’re saying….damon who? exactly!)
