i’m one eighth irish (really)

i unintentionally wore a green shirt today. i had it already picked out to wear to work, when i realized “hey, it’s St Patrick’s Day!” work went pretty well today, not much drama. there’s been quite a bit of it lately with people covering their own ass and throwing people under the bus. today was good though. i was able to sell my tickets to the hornets game tonight (which ended up in a crazy 4th quarter comeback win….but what can i do?) so i could stop by the bank and order euros. i decompressed at home for a bit, then headed back out and got my backpack. they have to transfer it from another store, but i’ll have it by the end of the week. i stopped by target on the way home and checked out some rugs for the table and chairs i’ll probably get on thursday. they didn’t really have many bright colors, just seemed like a lot of dark browns…which i guess are okay, but i’m not really excited about. i saw three though that caught my eye that wouldn’t break the bank. (the 2nd one is in the lead right now)

and now i’ll leave you with a video to celebrate st patty’s
(credit for pointing it out to jeff).

a great saturday indeed

so my sister moved into the apartment complex by my house. i rode my bike over and helped her unload some stuff. she’s paying for movers to move all her furniture, so i don’t have to. not that i wouldn’t have gone or helped, but hey, whatever. after that, i came home to watch the clemson/duke game. i’ve been wanting to play unc in the acc tournament, not duke. i mean, i hate duke as much as the next “acc school other than unc or duke” alum, but i wanted to play unc. i want vengeance for the two regular season games this year.

back to the clemson/duke game….so the last time clemson had beaten duke i was a freshman and it was my first clemson basketball game. i still remember the 6 point comeback in the last minute and the OT win, and greg newton losing the ball out of bounds sometime in the midst of all of that. oh, and duke had their old school road jerseys and Steve Wojciechowski playing PG. i won’t bore you with a recap of the game (which you can read about there), but i did leap in the air and holler. the end of the game when clemson had to shoot FTs, and cliff hammonds was at the line, i wanted so badly for him to make the shots. he’s a senior, and he’s worked his ass off getting an architecture degree and starting on the basketball team since he was a freshman. he’s a terrible FT shooter though. the espn announcers made no secret about that, in fact they pointed it out EVERY CHANCE they got. he steps up in the final minute of the game and drains all 4 of his FTs. amazing. clemson is finally getting to play unc and it’s for the ACC title.

after the game, i left to stop by the outdoor gear store to try to get a backpack for europe. i talked to the guy who i had seen the first time i went, and he showed me one that was new, and he said it was really great. i had never heard of the brand though, and it was more expensive than i had planned to spend. it was cool though, and upon getting home tonight i looked up reviews. people really seem to like it, and a couple of people took it to europe and loved it. decisions decisions.

i went to my friend chet’s church for the 2nd time tonight. the actual pastor preached instead of like last week when they had a guest missionary. it was good, and a lot of his sermon reminded me of my old church in clemson, DCF. i’ll have to see if he’s talked to my friend TJ because he was dropping a lot of the same catch phrases. after church i got to talk with some people i knew. i like the church and i’ll keep going for a bit longer, but it’s nice to go to a church where i don’t feel uncomfortable because i’m bored by the sermons, see people i know who were involved in running the previous pastor out, or the church seems impersonal.

after church, i stopped by world market and i THINK i’ve found a dining room table. one of the big factors is cost, and this one actually was around the first one i found that WM did not have any in stock of (it was on insane closeout). plus i think it’s going to fit in my house better. here’s a picture of it:
table

thoughts? nevermind the decorations in that picture, my room doesn’t look like that, although the wall color is actually a little close.

a recent run of bad luck

so saturday i went running before trying out a new church. i’ve been trying to mix in long runs at least once a week, which has been working. two straight saturdays of running 5+ miles, what up. however, this past saturday was a bit on the cold side. i wore a fleece pullover, but after waking up the next morning with a cold, i figure it probably was the running in the cold. fast forward to sunday evening, i hit up walmart and stand in the medicine aisle for at least 10 minutes. it’s like trying to guess a combination to choose medicine, and i always end up choosing the same stuff. this time though, i wanted something different, so i read the labels. i didn’t like the stuff that caused drowsiness, and then i was alarmed when one of the inactive ingredients on another kind was carnuba wax. i ended up getting a box of zinc lozenges to boost my immune system. i can’t tell if it’s working yet, but things have improved slightly and nothing has gotten worse.

this afternoon i got some troubling news. i’m running in the cooper bridge run in april. i had booked a flight to get home in time for the hornets game that was supposed to tip off at 6. i purposely was leaving early that morning when i could have just left at 3, so i could make it back in time. my flight gets back at 3 pm, plenty of time to make a 6 pm tipoff right? WRONG! i come to find out today that the game has been picked up for national broadcast and the tipoff moved to Noon. wtf?

resumes and half days

i received some troubling news earlier tonight in a text message from jacob. Robert Irvine, the guy who had the show dinner:impossible was fired over a fake resume. seriously, this is terrible. it was one of my favorite shows! why do people have to do things like that? what an idiot! i had noticed last night that the intro to the show didn’t mention how he had cooked for the royal family or white house, but i just figured it was a new intro, because really, i kind of didn’t care about that. but now i know the truth! he’s a fake! i now throw my full support behind Bobby Flay!

i was able to get permission at work today to take half days on wednesday and thursday. jacob and i finally will be seeing wilco. :) however, STARTING their shows (with an opening band!) at 10 pm is not helping me turn the corner to being a super fan. incidentally, the show on wednesday night will be webcast starting at 11 pm CT (according to the website, let’s hope they really do come on at 11, it’s the least they could do for those of us with real jobs!).

a great night capped off by a miracle

so today was awesome….and not because i was able to relax, watch a movie, and do laundry during the day. tonight at youth group, we played kickball. after shaking off a botched defensive play where the ball hit me in the face, i was able to make a couple of good plays and drive in a few runs. though, the all time umpire guy made some questionable calls and we lost. after a pretty good dinner, we made tie dyed shirts. i have no idea how mine will come out, but it has purple, green, and gold, and tomorrow after i hose it off and wash it with some salt, i will be able to see the finished product. i think i’m getting the hang of this counselor thing.

i got home to see Clemson was down something like 51-35 to Maryland. it only got worse, because i watched normally good shooters not even drawing iron. yuck. then they were down 20. TWENTY POINTS! what the hell? slowly, they started to chip away. a turnover there, a 3 pointer from deep there. all of a sudden after another turnover and dunk, it was tied with 45 seconds to go! a good defensive stop and they got the last shot….give it to the freshman Oglesby with a guy in his face….BOOM! Clemson wins 73-70! harkening back to how upset i was when unc did a similar thing to Clemson at home, i can feel for the Maryland fans. but wow, what a great feeling to win like that!

oglesby FTW!
