Running and I have been on good terms since July probably. I’ve been running a lot more regularly through August and September, running 60 miles total during those two months. A lot of credit can be given to blog friend Mandy for helping motivate me as we compete on Nike+ challenges. I had gotten a flyer for a half marathon on Halloween, back when I ran in the Crescent City Classic in April. I’ve never done a half before, so that’s been my goal over the summer and now into fall. I haven’t been doing that great on the training only because my hamstring was kind of acting up, and I haven’t been able to shake it. I’ve run one 10k over the past two months. Other than that I’ve basically been running 3 or 4 miles at a time. Wednesday afternoon I signed up for a 10 mile race next Saturday. TEN MILES! I have never run longer than 7 in my life, and that was almost a year ago. My plan to make the 10 miles next Saturday is to run 8 this Saturday. I’ve run 8 miles total this week, so I think I should be able to make 8 tomorrow. Next week I’ll run 4 or 5 miles twice during the week, then I figure I should be ready for Saturday. Or maybe not. When I’ve run long distances it’s not so much that I get tired as much as it is me getting bored. I think I can run 10, it’s just more of a mind over matter thing. I will have three weeks after next Saturday to train more for the half marathon.
One of the good things from last month was that I finally got my new running shoes. I had ordered them in July and they were not supposed to release until August. The problem was they got backordered and were delayed 3 or 4 times! I finally got them though and they are awesome. They feel like thick socks with cushy treads. They’re also a cool color. Check them out! (FYI, they are called Nike Lunarglides)
