So here’s a list of my latest musical recommendations, because there are several new ones. This stuff is all AMAZING in its own different way. So here’s the list.
Powderfinger - Vulture Street; (Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind is one of the most rocking love songs I’ve ever heard.
Blue Merle - Burning In The Sun; I demand that you pick up this album. I cannot get enough.
Donavon Frankenreiter - Self-Titled; I went to the concert at Blue Cat’s on February 18th to see Blue Merle, and left a fan of Donavon as well. Great cruisin’ music.

Friday night I went to a lock-in that the fine folks at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church’s youth group were putting on. They came to ours, so I thought it was only appopriate that we go to theirs. Twas fun, a lot less crazy than a lock-in we might put on at Buffalo, and involved more sitting and watching movies than going…insane. We watched Napoleon Dynamite (of course), AND…the highlight of my night….Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 and TMNT 2: The Secret of the Ooze. I was so excited to watch the two movies that were absolute favorites in my childhood (along with Three Ninjas and Surf Ninjas…and Home Alone). So Friday night I got absolutely no sleep, then got back at the dorm about 9:30 Saturday morning, slept for an hour, and then had to get up, come down to Alumni’s lobby and work the desk (which is what I’m doing now) from Noon until 7. On Saturdays I normally work from 4-7, but yesterday I was working a double because the guy that works the noon-4 shift had a scrimmage. So I had to sit in a desk without sleeping for 7 hours…after getting one hour of sleep in a 24 hour period. I had a break from 7 until 11, during which time I slept for another hour, and then had to work again from 11-12. So, on two hours of sleep, I had to work again. When I got done, I talked to my friend Kristen about some stuff for about an hour and a half (which had to be done) and then I went to bed. I woke up this morning at my usual 9 AM to get ready for church….got out of bed…and wanted very very badly to get back in bed. So I decided I’d sleep for another hour, miss Sunday School, and just go for church. I set my alarm for ten and went to sleep. At 11:20 or so my phone rings. It’s my mom, who leaves a message asking where I am, she’s just come down from the choir and I still haven’t shown up. Where am I? Bed. I realize at this point that my alarm did NOT go off at ten. I check it. Oh look, I set it for 10 PM.
Gah, what a day.

So I’m planning on entering our fine school’s yearly singer/songwriter contest next month.
I think I’ll sing all of my sappy love songs to make the ladies of Carson-Newman swoon and want to make out with me.
It’s sure to work.

An update of sorts…
I’ve had some pretty killer back problems this week, missing a lot of class (not a good thing at all), and just being in pain in general. Thursday, I went to the doctor and he told me that he thought I’d had a small strain, plus some spasms and some inflammation. I didn’t really know what all that meant…I just knew my back felt like it had been stepped on by a very large bear. So I got some anti-inflammatory medicine, and some muscle relaxers to take before I go to bed (the mornings are the worst as far as my back is concerned). So hopefully, I’m on my way back to painless days.
Last night, myself and some of my friends from here at Carson-Newman went to the Old City to Blue Cat’s to see Blue Merle and Donavon Frankenreiter. Remember both of those names…both are now in my “Sounds” section of my linkslist. The concert was amazing. Blue Merle’s major label debut released on Tuesday. They will be big. I predict it now. Donavon is a friend of Jack Johnson, and his music is quite similar to Jack’s….except it’s a little more rockin’. Maybe I’ll post a full review of the show later…I’ll have to think about that though.
As for now, I’ll leave you with what Donavon left us…”Staying young and havin’ fun, that’s what it’s all about, folks.”
